Hahahaha your review justifies why I won't listen to this. I loved their s/t, Iron and Victory Songs but I don't think I need anything more from this band.

Is it a product of Ensiferum running out of ideas or is it simply an off-album that most bands seem to encounter at least once in their career?

I think this can be said about the genre as a whole. I mean, look at the last Moonsorrow album against the rest of their discography.

Was looking forward to this release but after hearing it I was quite disappointed. Wished it was better, especially after hearing Burning Leaves live.

Besides that there is no way in hell that the album is great.

I don't think this album was great, it was good. To me, a 3.5/5 (or 7/10) rating does not signify a "great" album, but rather a good/average album.

3.5 is not average.

I'm used to a scale out of 7, and to me a 7/10 would be a pretty average album. Anything in the 6s or below would be below average to me.

That's stupid and you should feel stupid.

Yeah it's not really logical but I wouldn't be surprised if that dude was a frequent at metalstorm or some metal site like that because they use the /10 system and usually, everything that's below 7 there is, indeed, sucky.

So almost a year later and the long-term verdict is that the only song here worth a damn is "Celestial Bond", which is too bad because that's a really, really good track.

It's unreal how it's already been a year tbh. I gave this one only one spin and I don't remember much about it.

well, its been 9 months

and yeah, album offers very little other than the mesmeric "Celestial Bond"

Cruel irony that one of my favourite songs of last year appeared on one of my worst albums of last year.

This mediocre album was a disappointment, but it added 1 or 2 songs to look forward to live.

Bitter disappointment from this album which was unable to step out of the immense shadow of it's direct predecessor : From Afar...

Gotta say this has slowly been growing on me

3/5 might be a fairer verdict

Well this was underwhelming. The avarage rating is spot-on. This album is way too long and way too slow.

It has a few special moments like "Retribution shall be Mine" and "Pohjola", but ultimately for me

it's also a rather average effort for Ensiferum.
