You have nothing to worry about my buddy, if you like their old stuff, you will like this. Fags pretend they've lost their sound.

They haven't lost their sound, per se, but I don't find these songs to be engaging on the level of their past material. And while I think the production on this album would be good for a lot of black metal bands, I think Ash Borer really hit the sweet spot in that regard with their self-titled and that there is a disconnect for me between the music here and how it is treated and presented, production/engineering-wise.

Fair enough dude, I was more refering to some other users who took your comments in the news section and ran with it like they knew what they were talking about. I can totally understand how you find this less engaging than their s/t, especially with about 1/3rd of this album either being ambient trance or a doomy passage instead of their full tilt, raw intensity. Even though they've signed to a bigger label, you have to hand it to these guys for not fucking up their sound.

I still prefer it. I think the songwriting has definitely improved, but I personally prefer the better production as well

well

The variety definitely adds something to the music--they're not just a more aggressive WitTR clone

anymore, but I think the production seems to take power away from what this could have been.
