I bet you wish that was you base.

Do I need to elaborate?
|

baseline i dont know you that well i must say, i just know that you usually disagree with everything i say.
i disagree with you on something here though; i dont like the 'i like this but i know that is better' attitude. it just doesnt sit right with me, because a lot of the time, its just because the certain work is just praised a great deal for various reasons. on that note, i for one have never been much of a fan of symphonic work in general, though in the germanic tradition the symphonies were the serious works and the true show of a composers prowess, apparently. everyone usually focuses on the symphonies, much to my annoyance.
in the end id just rather listen to feldman because i like it more. if you like this, thats all good.
same goes for the reviewer, youve expressed your opinion and we have had a very civilised (for this website) discussion so far, so its all good.

Gonna go jam some Bax hard now.

The debut was amazing, I'll have to check this out.
|
| |
Wait a minute Baseline, you use caps lock for uppercase letters?
|
| |
yeah, dunkass. You press it every time you wanna start a sentence or say "I", type a letter, then turn it off.
|

thanks I'll latch onto this since anything blaring = good weed music = decent acquisition
personally it would be nice if you wrote less 'artistic' reviews I had to read the entire review to at
least get the very simplest gist of what this was (hell idk... string ambience?) and still really
didn't get it until one youtube play

holy shit i need this.

Well here are some caps for you base, I'm sorry that I have a nasty habit of tending towards lazy internet ways of desecrating the English language. I say this with equal amounts sarcasm and sincerity.
I get what you mean, though on a personal level, I think we tend to lump everything together sometimes without really meaning to. In discussions and reviews I think sometimes that it is too often argued that it's all about context, and it should only be judged entirely by standards of the genre/style etc. I think that is just a lazy argument most of the time, as being a great piece of music has nothing to do with satisfying genre conventions, and should not be judged only against genre conventions. I don't mean that it's not a valid means for comparison and discussion, but I feel that the basic aesthetic properties which we are attracted to run deeper than that.
Anyway, that's also a problem with 'modern classical'; grouping Schoenberg, Xenakis and Reich together makes no sense. Neo-classical also fits into there somewhere though, as a part of the great mash of styles.
|
| |
I can tolerate that talk about Reich, but not about Arnie!
|

You guys need some Sorabji.

*mystery hands*. And yeh, sure, I'm trying to gravitate towards the straight and narrow. Just when things like this come along I let myself get carried away.
