Now if they would just come back to Australia like they were supposed to...

Ooh, don't go there. I'm only just getting over that.

I think the album is a 3 but Eddie seemed really inspired. I'll bump it another .5 just for his crackling guitar work. Definitely not a bad album but still feels a lot like a retread. I hate "Tatoo" but it's the only song that sounds like they were at least moving into the 90's. This may grow on me a bit more but even if it does I think it will just be filling out the rest of it's 3.5 for me.

I'd say quality-wise this falls just behind VHI and II, and about tied for 1984. It kills any of the Hagar albums though. There's just not many "classic" songs although I see Blood And Fire, China Town, and As Is becoming live/band staples.

It's not the greatest thing ever but it's definitely surprising for a band that last released Van Halen III. For nostalgia's sake it's a great album. I know my dad(who's favourite band is Van Halen) loves it. "It's better than that piece of shit Van Halen III".

First listen, I quite enjoyed the album. Got a nice laugh from Stay Frosty, it sounds like they had a great time making the song. Tattoo, however, needs to just die. I can't get through that song anymore; just makes me cringe.

Don't necessarily disagree with any of your comments omni. I think when a band is gone for so long, a quality retread is the best way to go anyway.

Strizz, I'm in the "Van Hagar' got too much crap" camp. I thought '5150' was excellent. But this is definitely a worthy addition to their discog.

Imperial, I think we all agree it's better than III. I hope we do anyway.

BTW, I wonder if this will sell well enough (& has been sufficiently promoted) to go straight to #1 on the charts!?

I actually like Stay Frosty. I mean, the beginning's basically an Ice Cream Man retread, but Eddie improved the guitar part a little.

Atavan giving a cock-rock album a 3 is like a 5.5 for everyone else. I doubt he'll be sinking beers to it on a Friday night like Sauce will be though.

I think the album could have done without 'Stay Frosty'. It would make for an excellent bonus track on a Deluxe Edition though.
