Hari-Kiri is the Japanese Strong Society* (the physically fit club Mishima formed) take on ritual suicide

*I believe that was the name, but you get the idea.

You see, it's all once again open to interpretation. Even Hari-Kiri was in a sense an interpretation. This Message Edited On 02.06.06

Mordant, nice rebuttal. Cock.
It's perfectly valid. If you're not a doctor, don't hand out medical advise; if you're not politically informed, don't force-feed your political morals.

Nope, that analogy does not work. Medicine as a science is largely an objective process. Politics, meanwhile, deals with subjective and contrasting viewpoints. Discussion of politics is a civil and democratic right that pertains to every individual in out society. Stating that someone can't discuss certain subjects is utterly ridiculous.

I think American Idiot has a horribly flawed political message but I endorse Green Day's freedom to have an opinion. Why would that right be taken away?

Of course it was an exaggeration, bro.
While I advocate free speech, I espouse discretion. One shouldn't scream just to make a noise.
Green Day, NoFx, Kanye, Moore, among many others exceed their celebrity frame and rank themselves beside political-analysts like Zinn and Chomsky. The latter two have a life of study behind them, the others simply have a couple pop-culture awards.
But this discussion doesn't belong in a PtH album review forum...

Actually, upon further reading, Seppuku and Hara-Kiri are one in the same.

The dictionary states them as synonyms, and numerous encyclopaedias, including Wikipedia, state that, and I quote, "Seppuku is better known in English as hara-kiri".

So, what exactly is immature about my interpretations? I'd like to know why I deserved your negative when it was originally a positive.

I've got just as much reason to now spitefully negative assess one of your reviews, but I'm not an asshole so I wont do that. Changing your mind on my review out of spite was completely immature.

I agree.

True, but at least they are exercising their political right to involve themselves in the democratic process, as much as I may disagree with the context of their politics. It's their choice to voice their opinion and its our choice to not listen buy not buying their albums. Besides Zinn and Chomsky have a much mainstream credibility among young people as the bands cited.

Agreed.

Seppuku is the formal version and also includes self-decapitation in addition to the self-disembowlment. Hari Kiri is firstly almost a slang term when treated as a synonym for seppuku, and is meant to represent the "in-battle" form, which is done with a special hari kiri dagger, which precludes the self-decapitation.

There is no self-decapitation, Nick. Your trusted servant swings the katana or other blade at your neck whilst you kneel and disembowl yourself.

Rereading this thread, I come across as very pompous; at times, to the point of a self-appointed spokesman for the band. I regret this tone, but maintain all my arguments.
Heavy Riva's bang on -- so, Nick, you can quit flaunting those assinine biographical nuggets. No one cares to hear of your first year university studies. It's the general significance of Mishima's suicide that is fuggin' unreeeeeeeeaal.

This was a very good review anyway. I think I shall check out this band, despite my reservations involving this genre.

Wow, I just got caught up reading the debate in this review... Good to see you all have your heads up your as'ses and still promote serious internet business

I fuc'king love this album, and this band. It's, in my humble opinion, a masterpiece - even if some songs sound similar at times. I think the production is really flattering, too. And they don't remind me of BtBaM at all. They don't play metalcore music.

But whatever, fuc'king awesome album, if I was at this level at their age, I'd be even better today. I'm not. I cry myself to sleep sometimes.

This raging debate is hilarious :D... on a more relevant note, from what I have heard of this band, they are very talented and know how to write decent music. It is varied and interesting - lyrically it is very well developed. This Message Edited On 02.20.06
