Gabe you can yell all you want. Sorry i do not dig swag rap. Some of the producers are okay
or even excellent, but the content and lyricism leaves much to be desired most of the time.
The best hiphop this year was easily xxx but even that wasn't on the level of mbdtf or vessel
last year. The best scene by far ( Detroit) appeared to be on vacation this year with the
exception of random axe and bad meets evil which were both only solid and of course xxx
which wasn't really a genre defining masterpiece.
I never said this was hiphop, but if you want to keep beating your chest/ kicking and
screaming, go for it.

"o and this still isn't hip-hop. There are some minor hip-hop influenced moments but no."
It has a leg as firmly entrenched in hip-hop as it does in anything else.

I'm sorry, KingSoby, I'm not trying to be a dick. I just don't think this review is very good. I know you're a good reviewer (there's a reason you were promoted to staff), and I particularly enjoy your negative reviews, but this one just doesn't work. Even the summary is clumsy in terms of writing well (which is what we all strive for here, is it not?); for instance, what's the difference between "completely brilliant" and "brilliant"?

@gabethepiratesquid
I am glad that someone see the things about hip hop this year same as me...
soby if you see bad meets evil release and random axe as a solid LP's you have some serious problems with your hiphop taste. Look at the charts positions on professional music websites Shabazz Palaces stole the year not only in terms of hip hop but across the genres also Danny Brown is rated pretty well and what about Big K.R.I.T.?!
Well maybe it's rude that I attack on your Hip Hop taste but from my point of view you're wrong, terrible wrong
Also 5 for this is so overrated, but you probably say the same about my 5 for Black Up so it's draw

I didn't like House of Balloons that much, and I'm not even sure why.
But this is fucking legit all the way.

I don't think its clumsy at all. Something can easily be partially brilliant.
But yeah, i really thought black up was really strange/ trying too hard to be experimental. This year was about swag rap for many critics as a pitchfork trend unfortunately, i just do not like that music.

I don't agree with you (in general), you don't agree with me (in general) .... It's Pointless disscusion
so I am gonna abdicate, maybe 2012 shows a greater consensus in terms of hip hop soby :>

The only thing released this year that's better than The Weeknd trilogy was a 40+ year old Beach Boys album, so...yeah.
