I thought this was super boring when I listened to it a few months ago. Might give it another try.

Actually, 15-16 year olds seem very often to be musically closed off. Especially metalheads/prog fans. I know, I was there when I was 15.

Menawati, stop, you are making yourself look bad. It goes both ways.

Your sounding like a lot of teenage pseudo-elitists I've seen.

explain how people who like prog are musically closed off then

I meant that refusing to listen to music outside of your supposedly elite genres would be closed off. Your follow up comment kind of confirmed that.

stable you said "Especially metalheads/prog fans. I know, I was there when I was 15. "

That implies that you yourself were closed minded. How does your personal closed-mindedness apply especially to metalheads/prog fans ?

This isn't punk

Its pop-punk

I refused to listen to anything that wasn't graced with the intellectually superior "prog" tag, and I felt a special allegiance to metal for its "superior" musicians and edgy-ness.

I've noticed from hanging out on metal and prog communities that many of the fans are closed-off in their little world where their genre is the only thing worth listening to because it is so superior to everything else, with their heads firmly planted up their antisocial asses.

I guess I still have some problems, but at least I don't think I'm cool for being part of a specific genre or scene and I don't feel the need to force other people to like it.

Lol can't we all just get along?

I like metal and pop punk so...

But that is your own closed-mindedness at play. People listen to prog and metal plus loads of other stuff, many on this site. Fans of many genres are closed minded but that is a fault in their character not the particular genre they prefer.

..and in my experience of 'hanging about on those sites' prog fans are very open minded in general
towards all sorts of stuff ranging from punk to classical to indie, folk, metal and alt rock.

That's the thing, it's not like there aren't people that like both. I never said all prog/metal fans are like that, I just said that often they are especially bad for having a cult like mentality. The fact that you jumped in so defensively kind of shows that you care a little too much about your scene.
