someguest, that is true. Perhaps I should reconsider the best Mulan song, as mocking women for their in ability to fight < women in the kitchen.
I love traditionalist China.

@ Irv

Response is satisfactory, and a well defended position. I still question intent vs. coincidence. Do clouds inherently to look like shapes, or is it really just our confirmation bias in play? I tend to think the latter. In some circumstances Disney may show the intent, but they are to me too slight to be considered of any major significance, unless they have shown it blatantly, (which to me they generally don't), or have actually admitted to it.

You know what, I may just be sort-of with you in that one. There's something which they call subjective validation (I think), where humans see patterns that were never intended to be there because their brain half-expects it to be the truth. This is why, apparently, conspiracy theories get such a following and spread like wildfire - people just exclude all the opposing evidence and choose to focus on what they would like to believe is the truth. Scary, if you ask me.

The "SEX" thing is a total joke, sorry. That's just again some adult connecting the dots of abstraction, further proving some people just have nothing to contribute to society.

I have to agree with you. I rewatched the scene over and over again and could not, for the life of me, see the word "SEX" in it. The word only appears to me when the frames are slowed, the contrast is up, and the background is darkened. I am also inclined to buy Disney's defense that their animators were only trying to leave a signature of theirs on the movie (namely SFX).

Also, my favourite Disney movies are probably Hunchback of Notre Dame and Toy Story 3. The former is a masterpiece of plot, song, and pacing, while the latter is just pure comic genius.

While I'm here taylormemer, I'd like to tell you that I thought your DTS review was excellent. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the user ConsiderPhlebas, but the intellectual style in that review of yours reminded me of his work, which I also rate very highly.

Doesn't Disney own Pixar, though?

@ xtoxin: Hahahah I fear that that might become my official niche on this site. Ever since I started doing Disney reviews (of which there are now four) folks have markedly stopped commenting on my other work and focused instead on waiting for the next Disney piece to drop lol.

Pixar and Disney are partners in 3D animation. SO listing Toy Story 3 is perfectly legit.

@ Irv I need your opinion on this: do you think we should make an artist called "Disney Soundtracks" (or something), so we can removeme them from that ghastly soundtrack page? They are essentially of their own category in my opinion.

In response:
You can just call me taylor if you want. It's probably easier.

"subjective validation" is just another way of saying confirmation bias and is a form of human interaction with annecdotal evidence in support of their bias.

I haven't seen Melvin around much lately, and to be honest never properly enganged in any discussion with him. But I am humbled by your compliments and thank you for them.

Viacom owns Comedy Central. That doesn't mean they make South Park

I actually considered doing something similar once. I think that would be a good idea. I think what stopped is the fact that a Disney page already exists, BUT if we were to make a page entitled "Disney Soundtracks" that would solve that problem. All we need - I think - is to make the page and ask a mod (Jom is particularly cool for this) to move the albums around. I am also aware of the existence of a Tarzan review somewhere on this site (if I'm not mistaken it's sitting on a Phil Collins page - which is just a bad idea).

Shall I do it then, Taylor? =)

Artist page has been created, you can ask Jom to move around the reviews/albums, or I can if you like. One person should probably do it, to avoide double ups. There aren't many so it shouldn't take long.

I wrote a very succint bio, than can be fixed later.

"This page includes animation soundtracks released by Walt Disney Pictures, with the intent of including all soundtracks released by the film house regardless of composer, lyricist, and other collaborative inclusions by popular artists. The page does not include live action soundtracks such as the Pirates of the Caribbean, or the recent Alice in Wonderland (2010) which Disney are credited for.

Disney soundtracks have been composed by a variety of composers and musicians, from Elton John in The Lion King (1994), to classical heavy weights in Fantasia (1940). The era between 1987's The Little Mermaid and 1999's Tarzan is often referred to as the Disney Renneissance; much of the films in this era were composed by Alan Menken, and have become prime examples of the musical importance portrayed in Disney films in general."

That is fantastic work mate. Couldn't have worded it any better myself. I particularly like the thorough yet succinct nature of the explanation. I think you've got all our bases covered there.

PS - You appear to really know your Disney. Can I hope for a Disney review from you sometime in the near future? =)

I was going to review Tangled, which to me is brilliant. The Kingdom Dance segment is probably one of Disney's best ever moments.

taylormemer, quick nitpick:
"much of the films in this era were composed by Alan Menken"
It should be many, not much
