Agreed- Home they felt closer to a metal band, and then Animosity started to feel more of a mainstream Hard Rock which I wasn't crazy about but there were still a lot of great songs on there. "Angel's Son" remains one of my favorite acoustic jams of all time.

Home got plenty of sudden time signature changes considering it's a "radio metal" record. Like it chugs and when you don't expect it, it jumps out of the chug into something else.
Animosity definitely felt one step closer to the radio-type stuff they started doing afterwards, but I feel that the songwriting on that album is consistently very strong. I also particularly like the reasonably unique vocal interplay they got going on there with Lajon sticking to the soulful stuff, Morgan doing the banshee yells in the background and Clint using a more gravely bellow from time to time. The album also has plenty of great riffing for its style

The banshee yells haha, perfect description. Agreed with all that, too. Saw Morgan was in the hospital a couple days ago; last I saw there still hadn't been any public details put out other than Morgan saying he wanted to "figure out what's going on." So sounds like it could be serious?

I hope it's nothing serious. He seems like a good dude and I think he's a solid drummer as well. Obviously it's nothing too technical, but he can groove well and he can also really "hit" those drums. This record in particular is a very well drummed record.

Yep he's creative and he's got a unique style. Honestly I'll take that over technical proficiency by itself.

Technical drumming can be great, but you gotta be able to put your technical proficiency to use. I mean, what good is having first class ingredients at your disposal when you're unable to bake a tasty cake?
