I agree. First two listens I've had of this and I'm liking it. Will give it some more time for sure.

'You're a Tourist' is such a damn good song. The rest is kinda not so awesome.

Yeah, nothing as good as Transatlanticism, but I enjoy it. Even though it is a letdown for me, I really like some tracks. I can see why people don't like it though.

Loved Narrow Stairs, but I think I'm heading for a 2.5 or a 3 on this one. Still better than Plans though imo.

You definitely aren't the only one, but why don't you like Transatlanticism, luschlotz? Plans is a good album, but it's definitely their weakest behind this one. Although, I've only listened to Codes and Keys three or four times. I need to give it a few more spins.

Okay, this is wearing off me. Might drop to 2.5, just gets boring.

Why follow up Narrow Stairs with this record? It is so obviously uninspired and vapid. Gibbards vocals are washed out, completely fading into and merging with the music. This works for Justin Vernon with Bon Iver, but Death Cab for Cutie has always been a band predicated on intense emotional experiences; well fleshed out, intricately detailed eloquently painted scenarios that somehow tap into universal emotions. Perhaps the cover art is more candid than symbolic: Death Cab have literally phoned in this entire album. I am so let down by the mediocrity. I would have at least applauded an effort to do something different, even if it failed miserably. Codes and Keys is far too ordinary and boring for a band of Death Cab for Cutie's caliber. I mean this in the nicest way possible: Ben, please divorce your wife, start smoking cigarettes, and writing good music again, or just call it quits while you still have your dignity primarily intact. Cheers.

This is boring. I don't like the synth-y sound and it doesn't have that same draw of their older stuff
