Listened to the album twice and I feel disappointed.
Summing up : Improvised / uninspired sweet guitar melodies.
I couldn't even say what song is the best.
' Trembling Hands ' is awful.
Explosions In The Sky made one absolute masterpiece : ' Your Hand In Mine ', and that's why I've always kept hope for
the band. Now, it has nearly gone.

Meh, I dunno man. This review gets me rather unexcited for this... I was pretty pumped.
EITS lost its special feeling for me when I started delving further into post-rock and realizing that there are so many bands that do it so much better...
Ah well, This Will Destroy You has post-rock made for this year, so I don't mind. I probably won't pick this up, I don't want more of the same.
EITS needs to go heavier, I think, or acoustic.
|
| |
... but you rated this.
and guys it's ok we still got Mogwai (even though Spokes sorta betrayed post-rock) (actually Mogwai did a little too but not really)

"... but you rated this."
I know, based off of the only two songs I had heard.
But, I just listened to another track, and I can tell it's nothing new or exciting...

This is more like a strong 3/light 3.5 for me. I like quite a bit of the stuff on here but it just doesn't have enough replay value.
How ironic that i used to give This Will Destroy You a lot of flack for sounding like an EITS ripoff. And yet TWDY's newest is so much better and more interesting than this.

you can't rate an album off of listening to two or three songs, that is ridiculous. I feel like people even review stuff without giving the music time which is dumb as SHIT.
Also where should I start with this will destroy you? Their first ep sounded good but I would like something on vinyl and they don't have it.

I don't get all the 'hate' for this record. Granted, it's not their best record. Not even by a stretch, but to me this is a solid 3.5. Postcards and Trembling Hands are very solid songs. One or two completely forgettable songs on here and the rest is above par. Not a bad record by any means. The album art is pretty horrendous, yes, but i've yet to see it in a physical form. I'm sure there's plenty of details in there.
Don't believe the hype? Don't believe the hate.

"Don't believe the hype? Don't believe the hate."
I have no idea where you're pulling that "don't believe the hype" thing from lol.
... and where is all the hate for this exactly? isn't the average like... 3.5 or something, a.k.a. what you think the record is lol? I think it's poor.

Yeah, I know, it was an impulse rating, I love EITS's older stuff, so I just assumed it'd be a strong 4 anyway, I just changed my rating.
As far as TWDY's stuff, I'd start with Young Mountain and just follow the band's progression album by album, all the way up until Tunnel Blanket.
