I hope not, but you're probably right. Album title screams garbage.

I love getting nagged because people disagree with me.

I've had this for like 3 weeks and I STILL don't know how I feel. It has some catchy songs, but the
others are... yeah really bland. I'd probably lean more toward a 2.5 than a 2, but mostly I agree with
ya.

God damnit Scar Symmetry.

Most melodic death metal albums make this look like a fucking masterpiece.

You indie guys sucks. At least more metal community sites like metal archieves can review music like this. This is

music for fans of melodic death metal with a progressive touch, not scene kids. OH YES! They definitely pulled

through, even with the loss of Christian. The two new vocalists are given much more breathing room here, especially

Palmqvist. Indeed, there's a LOT more clean vocals than ever before. I'd go as far as saying it's a lot more

"accessible". At least, when Karlsson's growls show up, he sounds as powerful as ever. Good growler, he is. To be

honest, I found that Palmqvist sounded too mundane on Dark Matter Dimensions and I don't know if that was the

idea but giving him more breathing room on The Unseen Empire was a good move, IMO. He's actually pretty killer

and surprisingly versatile (especially on songs like Domination Agenda or Rise of the Reptilian Regime, where we hear

a softer, more "fragile" side of his voice).

So yes, the album is somewhat "mellower" in general, because of the increased presence of clean vocals. I'd say it's

about 70% clean vocals and 30% growls. That said, to me it's not a bad thing. I can smell the elitists coming from

here and the annoying "not heavy enough, bunch of sellouts" and whatever. But for me, the album still kicks major

ass, thank you very much! I was a little worried because the tired theme of Illuminati/Annunaki often leads to boring,

regurgitated propaganda. Thankfully, the band seem to have avoided that. I'm eager to read the actual lyrics when I

get my copy of the album. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with The Unseen Empire. All of the songs are highlights for

me. There's some pretty killer clean vocal hooks here, like on Illuminoid Dream Sequence but also some pretty mean

growls, like on Astronomicon. You have some faster crackers, like Seer of the Eschaton and slower/mid-tempo

numbers like Rise of the Reptilian Regime.

My hat is off to you, men. You pulled through and brought us another masterpiece. I dare say I like this as much as

Holographic Universe. Killer album!

buddhaabdi:

1) Nobody's ever called Scar Symmetry sellouts. They're just like Dark Tranquillity - they have their style and they stick with it.

2) The balance between growls and cleans is around 50/50 on this album. Even if it's in favor of cleans, it was the same on Holographic Universe and many people seem to think it was their best album.

The melodic death metal bands have been recently putting out increasingly worse albums. Bodom's last album was... horrendous. I'm a big fan of them but any album with "Pussyfoot Miss Suicide" can't be good. DT's last album was mediocre compared to my favorite album Character. In Flames will further disappoint us and apparently Scar Symmetry isn't doing anyone a favor either. Who else is going to step up and add to the suckage?

Kalmah's newest was excellent and Insomnium's upcoming album will probably rule, so it's not all lost. Just most of it.

Yeah Kalmah's album from last year was great. Not expecting much from Insomnium since I've never really liked them all that much, but I'll still listen. Hopefully the new Amorphis will be great.

Metal archives is an lol website. Because to them apparently BTBAM isn't metal. Which is hilarious. And yeah 90% of Melo-death coming out sucks. Kalmah's latest was awesome.

Not gonna bother with this.

That's funny that you mention Kalmah because I have been in love with 12 Gauge for a while. So very good point. Opeth is a bit off from this genre but they have been consistently good. Never checked out Insomnium before though.

This is very disappointing, because Holographic Universe was really solid. Christian took the pioneering spirit with him when he left, then dumped it in the nearest trashcan before moving on to his new projects.

Why does everyone talk like Christian was a great singer? His cleans sucked so what does that tell you about the rest of the band?
