He talks about reviewing the composition, songwriting, but in the metal world, it is almost the same thing as riffs, lyrics, drumming ability, general atmosphere, guitar and bass work, leads, transitions, dynamics etc.
first, why is the metal world distant from the rest of the music world? and lyrics may have something to do with songwriting, yes, but not so much in a compositional sense (not in this case anyway). 'general atmosphere' isnt exactly something you notate in your score, it is a product of production + songwriting. coherence is something people would find debatable.
guitar and bass work? if you mean that songwriting is what the musicians are playing, then yes!
drumming ability? absolutely nothing to do with songwriting.
i would be retracting those points out of incorrectness, rather than misunderstanding. its not that you were incredibly off the mark, its just that you sprayed answers all over the place.
