Yeah, it's their most accessible, but it's also my least favorite Roots album.

Really? Rising Down is one of my favorites. What do you think of Thing Fall Apart?

Long Time off Game Theory is my favorite Roots song.

But anyway, back to CunninLynguists and how much this rules.

I like it a lot, but it feels like it drags to me

Fair enough, to each their own.

But anyway, back to CunninLynguists and how much this rules.

Almost done this album, and I don't want to prematurely say it's the best album of the year so far because I've only heard it once, but... it may very well be.

Fantastic review Dev, perhaps I'll drop my pretensions and check this - you made it sound ever so inviting.

"but the maturity with which they handle their concepts are genuinely unnerving."
-think you wanted "is" instead of "are", I think it agrees with maturity a little better.

What are your favorites

^ I like almost all of them, but Predorium, Dreams, Enemies with Benefits, Stars Shine Bright, and As hard As They Come stand out the most at least for now.

I'm not ready to say this is the best album of the year so far, that still belongs to Rae in my mind.

but it is in my top 3 along with Ulcerate's newest. man, it's been a fucking great year so far (seeing as I didn't even mention Sims, Onry Ozzborn, James Blake, Defeater, Radiohead, Pharoahe Monch etc)

Radiohead and James Blake didn't do a whole lot for me, and I really didn't like new Defeater, but I agree that it's been a pretty good year for music so far. Deerhoof, Demdike Stare, Tim Hecker, and CunninLynguists have all had incredible releases. Didn't know that Ulcerate have a new album out, I'll have to look into that for sure.

BigHans: i know it's short, but I also love "Phantasmata".

new Ulcerate is still actually grappling with Rae's album for my favorite so far, it's fucking awesome. I love the James Blake album, but yeah Radiohead and Defeater are both like 3.75s for me, just rounded up to 4 bc I dig both bands. still, a lot of good albums considering how young the year is.

also I forgot to mention Destroyer, who put out a pretty enjoyable disc earlier.

Rae's new album is easily my favorite. Aaskereia, Earth, and Vreid would be after that.

I need to listen to the Earth album again, I played it through twice when it first came out but haven't listened since

It's so good. Aaskereia is kinda passing it up, but still, it's fantastic.
