i agree

I usually prefer the non-track by track reviews but still, well done as I hadn't actually heard any wolfmother before so I decided to check them out. I can't remember what track I listened to but it's very good.

These guys are what rock music needs.
Go the home-grown lads!
|
| |
What rock music needs is originality.
Don't get me wrong, these guys are good at what they do, but in a year they'll be forgotten.
|
| |
Sure, their music clearly lays out where their influences lie, but, there's not a whole heap of bands that spring to mind these days who still are influenced by bands like Zeppelin and Sabbath. Well...there probably is, but I can't think of any off the top of me head right now.
I don't think they'll be forgotten so quickly, I say if you like em, just enjoy what they do.
|
| |
Yeah, fair enough, but I wasn't talking about just influences, I was talking more about outright derivitiveness- Woman is a direct rip-off of Led Zeppelin, the keyboard solo in Mind's Eye is so Deep Purple it hurts, that kind of stuff.
My main concern is that overhype will send these guys the way of Jet. They're talented musicians, they just need to step out of the shadow of their influences.
I'll still support them though, being an Aussie. United we rock!

"living end, the vines, the mess hall, airbourne, the cops, the drones..."
crap. the living end used to be good back in the early days. the vines are crap. and the frontman should stop abusing LSD...
not very good ones.
only ones i can really say are awesome are Alchemist and The Butterfly Effect.
Let's not go making any rash statements right now eh?
Australia has many great bands that are currently active, whether you know about them or not. I will agree, the bands listed as good examples of Australian music above are pretty lame.
You say you likes TBE? Try giving Cog and Karnivool as listen. Dead Letter Circus are also looking to be a promising band in that particular genre. If you have a further interest in good Australian music, delving into the heavier sides of Rock and Metal, feel free to contact me.

Cog is interesting, but i find that moustache of his more interesting lol

I actually had a moustache like that for a couple of days. I did it too prove a point (a trivial one at that), and not because I thought it looked good. I got lots of stares. It does however, suit Flynn. I couldn't imagine him looking any other way.

The songs are sort of catchy, but they're so tremedously unoriginal, I daresay even Jet is more geniune. It's really annoying to hear a band that just photocopies 70s rock, the most well-known, and ripped off brand rock. At least the Darkness seemed to have some sort of sense that they were completely pointless.

We're talking about great Aussie bands and you've all failed to mention Powderfinger. Grrrr. Some of the above bands are great, but they don't hold a candle to the powdery appendages.
|
| |
I mentioned Powederfinger. So there.
Although no-one has mentioned Antiskeptic or Dusted Orange, and they're both damn good too (:

At least I can depend on you to keep things sane, Pat me boy!
As for the 'mother, I really don't care if a bands sound is derivative (or "inspired" as the 'mother faithful would say), it's a bloody good listen for me. Sure, you could pick up a Sabbath album and hear the same thing, but when I grow tired of Ozzy and co, I'll know where to turn. :thumb:

I dig.
If I've got a beer in hand and happen to hear them or see them live, I won't chuck a fit or anything...I may even nod my head with faint alcoholic approval. I can listen to them and say 'yeah, they're not bad', but what really bugs me is their legion of fans who rave unequivocally about them as though they're the second coming...and it's the exact same people who said the exact same thing about Jet. And we all know how that turned out.
Save yourselves now, Wolfmother. Run far, far away from the hype machine.
Anyway, in the end, it's only rock and roll, but I like it.
*nods in satisfaction because he's seeing the rolling stones on tuesday*

Yeah, Jet were bad. I get the feeling the 'mother aren't going to ride the hype wave (read rape the hype wave) like they did. If they "keep it real", we should see more of them in the future (with a fresher sound here's hoping!)
The Rolling Stones eh? Have fun!

Felon dude, Wolfmother is Psychedellic rock. I wouldn't call it "rock" rock at all. What Jet rip-off does polyrythems????
|
| |
Having listened to the entire album in some detail, I'd say that they're both 'rock' rock and psychadelic rock. And they do neither style with much originality.
That keyborad solo in mind's eye just shits me to tears.

wolfmother rock if youve never heard the album gotta check it out totally sick
