"and guys just because it's "well-written" in a sense doesn't mean you have to pos or whatever"

but it asks... "was this review well-written"

so i would pos/neg based off how it was written, rather than the justification they use to rate it

especially considering the question isn't "was this album well-rated"

no, Brick, I'm saying I think people are misinterpreting "well-written" to mean "Hey they didn't misspell too many words and their sentence-structure is good and it's seperated into paragraphs it's well-written well-written well-written!!" when actually, I think, a well-written review should make clear points backing up the rating of the album and the points should have evidence etc.

It's more than just grammar and diction, I think, but oh well... pos/neg system is meaningless anyway.

Converge's best song is, imo, "You Fail Me".

"The overall feel of Jane Doe is very hard and painful, but is hard to truly capture it's essence."

capture it is essence? nah son

review was pretty good. i'd agree with maybe backing up your points a little more as some other people

said. i agree that the album is banal and repetitive and sort of one-mode (i know that some people

like this about it) which is why it's def not a classic for me. first, say, four songs are great

"best converge song"
why not mention the best ways to suffocate
lol jk

but , "well-written" does indeed include well-fleshed arguments, etc. However, saying that x argument + y argument = z rating is silly, simply because different people hold different aspects of music in higher esteem. While x argument may be enough on its own to grant the album a 2, a different user may see this as a minor, even negligible gripe.

Basically, I'm restating what i said before: well-written =/= well-rated

I negged the review and I'll explain why.

The biggest issue with your arguments is that you point out flaws that aren't actually flaws, as they don't pertain to the quality of the music. You assume throughout the review that anger and aggression are inherently bad and from this you assert that the album it in itself bad. Another example is your argument regarding the lyrics:

The lyrics themselves could have easily been made into a poem, but on Jane Doe they stay encased in a golden cage of anger and riffage.

The fact that the lyrics aren't comprehensible or accessible through listening to the music is not a flaw, it is a stylistic choice by the band.
Your writing is solid but the pos/neg vote can't be just based on that. The value of the arguments must also be considered and honestly they are fairly poor throughout this review. I'm just trying to help you improve by explaining my vote.
