^ wrong

it's different, totally different, but still excellent.

As for this, it's excellent, not as excellent as other stuff but still an awesome record and far better than most of what's out there. I think it, like all 'Size albums, will get better and better with multiple listens. Therefore I shall hold off writing a review until I have listened to it 20 times or so.

Terrible? Really? Any particular reason why? H&M was just a step sideways to me, not backwards nor forward. I love it. However, as much as I am biased when ranking this band, I will never slap the 5 tag on H&M.

^ Haha, I can't wait for the Favorite Album Poll to spring back into action on Sizeboard in about a year or so! It'll be VERY interesting to see how many votes Self Preserved will get.

Wow. Fantastic review. I will be buying this soon; it's one the albums I've been most excited for in 2010 so...fingers crossed!

I want this soooooo bad. I wonder if they have a song on here that is better than my all time favorite (Savant). I'm so happy I got into this band a year ago.

great review, I think you're one of my top 3 reviewers on the site. not saying that to suck your dick, your reviews are just all good. now, though, you have time to listen to The Gigantics :]

My preorder got backordered somehow...not shipping out till the 20th.

So I couldn't contain myself, gave this a listen. Some of the softer tracks do seem a bit lackluster but i'm sure I just need to let them grow on me. I think Build Us a Rocket is still my favorite.

yazz: how'd you like superimposter?

Superimposter was interesting. I've always been a sucker for 5/4 grooves. It doesn't climax as much as I would have liked it to but it's a chill closer. Out of the four mellower tracks I think i'd have to say "Ransoms" is my favorite, love the bass groove.

Also i'm not sure if anyone else got this vibe, parts of Oscar Acceptance Speech remind me of TDAGARIM-era Brand New, and Superimposter reminds me a bit of Thrice's folk experimentation.

Chase It If I Want To is fucking superb though.

I wish it were longer but that's definitely one of my favorites.

yeah that's the only downside to the song, it's too damn short.

Most of the 5's are fanboys (Not to say I'm not one), but this was still a great release. I rated it honestly.

But if you're looking to get into the band further the best place to start is Effloresce. It has three distinct parts to it, so one might appeal to your likings.

Listened to this 4 times in full today, this one...like all of their albums, is proving itself to be a grower. I'm beginning to really like the softer songs now. Part Cardiac, almost surprisingly, may be my least favorite.

I disagree with this review so much that I may just have to write my own. This album is completely different from Frames, and it's actually quite bizarre in a subtle way. I also don't think the pacing would work any other way, and is part of what makes the album unique.
