I reckon this album is definately more of a grower than all the others but it's still almost as good in its own way. It's quite a lot softer, not as soft as DSABH but I still love it, more now than when it first came out as I've been listening to it. Drumming still needs improvement but it's got better.

And Christ, you'd think the people in here were 12 years old, and that's you on both sides of the argument. A lot of people miss the fact that they've been together as a band for over ten years, they've gone through their periods of being broke and playing tiny venues; not just a flash in the pan band.

Evilmen's got a point. There are six venues on this site where you're guranteed to witness a discussion turn into and all-out brawl:
1) a HIM review
2) a review of the new Thrice album
3) a review of St Anger
4) a discussion of whether In Flames have gone nu-metal
5) a discussion of whether A7X were better before City Of Evil
and-
6) a discussion about what constitutes emo and what doesn't
Still, I can't stand HIM in the least. But, you know, that's just me.

This album is more pop, but still great. I've been a HIM fan way before Bam knew what the heartagram was. Sadly, while I wore the heartagram Bam stole it from them, and I was mistaken for a fan of that loser Bam. Anywho, this album is FAR better then Love Metal.
People seem to dislike this band for no apparent reason other then "they image themselve a 'satanic'" which is far from true. The heartagram was design to mean love and hate and however lame some of you people may find that, it was never meant to image them as satanic. Worse off most of you bad mouth them over their image when you haven't even heard a full album calling it 'rubbish' or whatever. Ville's voice may be 'annoying' to some, but no doubt that he has talent.

Dark Light is yet another turn in style for HIM. I've heard everything from "HIM goes Pop," to "HIM has sold out," over this album. But if you look at HIM's entire catalogue, you'd realize that they've done this kind of thing before.

The transition from thier full blown Goth album Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666, to the more 80's style glam rock album Razorblade Romance brought on this exact same kind of argument. The fact is, by making Dark Light more poppy, HIM did indeed set themselves up for a more American friendly release. But thier real motivation for the new sound was to take thier musical style in a new direction, which is exactly what they did. It just so happened to be more poppy.

Dark Light itself is a pretty good album. It's far from being my favorite of HIM's work, but it does have some very entertaining songs.

I for one am very glad HIM didn't make another Love Metal, or Razorblade Romance II. The fact that they can change styles every album, yet still retain thier signature sound, I think at least, shows that they are very talented musicians. This Message Edited On 04.22.06

What I meant with "This album is more pop" is that all 12 songs (i think that includes the cage and Venus) are a lot softer and have more of that... pop feeling. Razorblade had Join me In Death (which is still my fave HIM song), GLSV666 had When Love and Death Embrace and The Heartless, etc.
Having a more "poppish" sound isn't bad... but a huge turn around from an all songs sounding like pop to just a few

Still I think this album is awesome. Like i've stated before their first three are my fave, but this one still is great!!!
