A great technical death album and one of the best of 1991.

This album has some quality riffs and the melodic solos are superb - see Twisted Truth and Land of Tears.

The production is much cleaner than the previous record, although a little underwhelming at times. The drums sound fantastic, but the rhythm guitar on certain tracks could be heavier.

The interludes are nice touch to this album adding to the atmosphere.

Vocal wise Patrick Mameli does the job, but he is no Van Drunen.

This is a worthy pick up.

I agree. In my opinions this is the best of pestilence work. The interludes between songs are super. Lead guitars have nice melody to compliment the technical riffing. Track 13 presence of the dead is very good.

consuming impulse is a super album. van drunen i find is a big part of the sound though this album has stronger riffs and better solos and vocals are just as good. patrik has a similar vocal style to obituary.
