This album is alright, no where near as good as people make it out to be though.

Saves the Day's old stuff is pretty darn awesome too.
|
| |
That's because Saves The Day is for the most part a musically intelligent band.
|
| |
...for the most part....which translates to everything before IN reverie, but i have heard a rumor that they only made in reverie because of thier guitarist (he wanted an album like that), it was his dying wish or something and now he is dead (cancer)...poor guy!

| |
Are you serious? **** I guess I should buy their "last" cd huh? Pay my respects. (Although their live shows were ,to be truthful, kinda painful to watch.)
|
| |
The former bassist Sean McGrath was the one that died.

I just got this album because I dled a few of their new song(The Union, One-Eighty by Summer) and liked them. I've only listened to it through once and I think it will grow on me but honestly this is an average album and, other than the well executed duel vocal overlapping, has very little new to offer. I have no doubt that there are a few great songs on the album that will catch me after a while but I don't think it will turn into one of my favorite cds.

^^^ you have no idea what emo is. at least not the technical definition.
i dont care how long you've played guitar or wrote about your mother in your bedroom, but they are miles and miles ahead of simple plan, lyrically especially..and its not always the difficulty of the music, its the presentation, i would think after 9 years of playin you would know that...same w/ the lyrics, presentation is huge
"i dont neccisarily write amazing lyrics, i write lyrics that are fun to sing"
-ben kweller
this is a good phylosaphy that is used alot in tbs work
If you were to consider Taking Back Sunday to be miles and miles ahead of A Simple Plan then we'd have to recalibrate the scale of quality to place decent bands like A Perfect Circle as lightyears ahead of Taking Back Sunday and amazing bands like Circle Takes the Square as light centuries beyond Taking Back Sunday.
If you think this band has lyrical merit then you don't know anything about writing.
I do know that presentation is important. I did figure that out after 9 years of playing guitar. Too bad that TBS's presentation is miserable. How about this: Generic pop punk band that screams occasionally writes repetitive, unimaginative songs recorded with too much reverb and ridden with clichéd lyrics about breakups. How is that a good presentation??!
Ben Kweller makes Jose Canseco look like Descartes.

what is everyones problem in this forum, this album is absolutely brilliant for a mainstream debut.
|
| |
The problem is people in this forum(myself included) do not settle for mediocer music, we are cheap bastards and don't want to spend good money on every "emo" band that MTV crowns as great. We have tasted the suculent tip of good music and it doesn't lie in in the hands of mainstream businessmen. Not to say all mainstream bands are bad, just the majority of them.

Are Cute Without The E and No I In Team telling a story?
|
| |
"Cute Without the 'E'" is the only Taking Back Sunday song I like. I take it as a duty to make fun of the kids at the mall with tight TBS shirts on.
|
| |
if u havnt bought this album dont do, buy the reissue u get a extra DVD another CD(with another song and an acoustic Cute without the E) and a victory tv dvd
|
| |
EMO rules as does Screamo and Taking Back Sunday
|
| |
^^^^above poster not wlecomeed in a Emo, Screamo, or TBS comment thread anymore, thank you

Great review, I think the album was overall great. Recieves about a 4.5/5. The band is emo and emo people do not need to cheer up. I am offended. But the band is good and the coolest song on the album is Great Romances of the 20th Century.
|

well...
first off vistoryrecordsfan shut up who are you to say that
and The One, that was funny "think about getting a new one" great line
next, tbs isnt true emo, they just write emotional lyrics, and for those of u who thnk it is the same thing, then listen to someone like Tupac's lyrics and tell me if he is "emo"
whoever compares tbs to simple plan should revaluate their existence as a human being (lol) and while they (tbs) arent the best writers ever, they are extremely talented.
And "theres no i in team" involves the bands issues with brand new, brand new singer's girlfriend cheated on him with one of the singer's (srry i dont remember) from tbs, so tbs wrote that song and brand new wrote "sevent times seven"
I dont think that it was the guitarist who left, but the bassist and lead singer that left to straylight run (dont quote me on that cause adam might be the lead singer and ill look like a jackass lol)
Great Romances of the 20th century is nothing short of brilliant (as is most of the cd)
p.s.
tbs=sweet
