This album is amazing. I've waited so long for this. Ever since I listened to the first 4 seconds of Relativity aka TAILOREDDDD SHEEEEEETSSSSS! Anything with Jonny's vocals (whether you believe they are "played out" or "the same structure") is beyond words. Any man who can range vocally like he can, can talk about god knows what (like he normally does) and it will still sound like Mary giving birth to Jesus Christ himself. Don't get me wrong, I miss Jonny and Jon Mess together as much as anyone. DBM IS my favorite album ever, and most likely always will be. But at least Jonny is still in a band with amazing musical talent for us to enjoy. So stop looking at the flaws of this album, and talkin about how he's a "dick", and just listen to the greatness which is this self-titled album.

Although I love Jonny's voice as much as the next person, only 3 or 4 songs on Relativity really stuck out for me (The Past Should Stay Dead, Heads Or Tails? Real or Not?, Set It Off Like Napalm, and I Still Feel Her). The rest just blended together. If this album blends together too, I'll definitely be disappointed, because that was the one major change I'd been hoping for.
If the band were to adopt a consistent screamer DBM style, I'd probably love it, simply because I loved DBM (especially if the screamer is more legible than Jon Mess).
I'm glad that Emarosa's other members are able to get along with Jonny, because I don't like his solo stuff. But something is needed so that the album doesn't just sound like Jonny singing and wailing about random things throughout.

Jonny and the crew are still one step ahead of the scene.

too bad "the scene" stopped being relevant some time around 2005.

still trying to decide on a rating. right now it's looking like somewhere between a 3 and a 3.5. i love his voice, but i wish there was just a little more variety on this album. most of the album sounds very similar, although that isnt necessarily a bad thing because it all sounds good. i've never heard anyone thats able to convey emotion through singing the way jonny craig does, i will always enjoy listening to him sing no matter what band hes in.

Lol. The scene.
Someone recommend me an album that has an awesome singer making a better album than this (I have DBM).

Bands with an awesome singer? Bit broad - genre-specific?

Circa Survive.
Thomas Erak and Jonny Craig should start a band and just compete to see who can be a bigger douchebag. The music would actually be really awesome if Thom just did screaming vox and played guitar. Just keep his singing voice/lyricism as far away as possible.

since when is thomas erak a douchebag? he's always been a show off, but i met himself and he's a nice, yet pretty effeminate guy

hmm, the new circa survive album is really good. whatever i say is royal ocean (first dgd EP) is also really good if you don't have that already. honestly there are very few singers that can compete with jonny craig. the isles and glaciers cd is pretty good if you want to just enjoy an album for the vocals. the instruments aren't anything special on it but overall the album is fun to listen to.

The band is tagged as Post Hardcore.
Is my concept of hardcore totally wrong? :S
|

This is better than Relativity because this is Emarosa being Emarosa and not them trying to be DGD.

Is my concept of hardcore totally wrong? :S That was my exact thought the first time I heard one of these post hardcore bands. What do they have in common with bands like Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, or even Minor Threat?
