Autechre, sadly, has just never really done it for me. I really enjoy a lot of their earlier material off of Incunabula and Amber (which a lot of people, æ included, apparently don't even consider to be actual autechre) but their later releases don't really make me feel anything at all. I respect them and their contributions, but despite numerous attempts at listening to their later albums I just don't hear what other people are hearing apparently. That's not to say that the odd track here and there doesn't strike me, it's just that the vast majority of it leaves me feeling pretty indifferent.
But to each their own. They're an important presence and lot of people love that shit, good for them.

ugh autechre is so good though
listen to drane2 until everything clicks
|

Oh man, that's not the song you want to recommend me. lol.

Have you ever given Exai a try? It's more accessible than a number of their previous LPs. If nothing else, give Bladelores a listen.
|
| |
Further is one of my favorite electronic songs ever if that can serve as a reference point. Also love Eggshell, Basscadet, Dropp and a small handful of others whose names I can't recall probably because, like many Aphex track titles, they're ridiculous.
|
| |
I've heard Exai, but probably only once. Fuck it though, I'll give it another spin. I think my biggest gripe has more to do with the lack of melody, which may prove to be incurable.
|
| |
There is melody in most of what Autechre does, you just have to search for it a bit before you hear it clearly
Also, regarding the early material stuff, have you checked Chiastic Slide? That's the favorite of one of ae's members

i am ae superfan and i don't really 'get' exai so
try oversteps or move of ten for more overt melodies

"If nothing else, give Bladelores a listen."
Good call on Bladelores.
I'll check out Chiastic Slide and Oversteps again, it's been a while. Don't think I've ever even heard Move of Ten before.

Move of Ten should be pretty accessible

The structure, use of samples and vaguely futuristic vibe of the title track remind me so much of Oneohtrix Point Never (just much more dancable)
I know he's an afx fan (SAW2 is in his top10 fav albums ever) so I wonder how much that song influenced him
Whatever the case song is pretty cool
