I don't care if this sounds like Gorillaz or not...As far as I am concerned it sounds great! Since when "a band should always sound like itself" became a criteria for the album being any good, anyway?

Superfast Jellyfish is a real entertainer. Albums quite a fun listen,

most overrated album of the year so far. decent but....Demon Days is better

I'm loving the spread of opinions. I'm going to give mine in a couple of hours.

Very well-written review. Interesting....

I generally don't like guest stars on albums anyway. They stick out like sore thumbs. I'm sure bands have fun collaborating with new people, and I have fun listening (I'm especially going to check out the Lou Reed and Snoop Dogg songs on here for instance), but please, release it separately, and don't dilute the artistry and cohesiveness of an album.
I haven't heard Plastic Beach yet; this is just my general opinion about all albums with guests.

i think they picked some poor singles. stylo is great but i'm not a fan of superfast jelly fish or on melancholy hill.

At Least Stlyo got a badass apperance of John McClane in the video

I still don't get that video

Was never really into Gorillaz, but I can dig it. Some pretty good songs here.
|

I really like the album.. Probabbly a 3.4 or 4/5 for me.
I think it's a well written review but I have to disagree with the idea that its not a "gorillaz album." It's a concept album. Every song has to do with their new dig on the plastic beach as opposed to their old place in Kong studios. I think on melancholy hill is one of the best songs they've ever done

Lou Reed and Snoop Dogg sound exactly like the washed-up lazy has-beens they are. Gruff Rhys too, to a lesser extent.
Two thumbs way down...Reed's track is the best and it sounds like Lou Reed's always sounded (see: Velvet Underground).

basically agreed with the review. too many guest spots make you forget this is a Gorillaz album. the songwriting is really disappointing too.
|
| |
i've always known gorillaz as being somewhat abstract but this album pushes it a little too far.. i heard the chorus superfast jellyfishes' and knew from that point gorillaz were over the hill.. disappointing
