ok let me clear my point. I am by no means calling him a bad drummer. He would rank among my top 10. But having said that he is not perfect.
I am simply saying that the kick-controlled-fills can get a bit tiresome considering they tend to sound the same.
But that would probably be the only thing I could fault on the guy tbh, I mean he is insanely fast and his variations on the over-used blast beat are nothing short of amazing; I just wish he would use a different fill for a change.

The drum fills really start to get annoying after a couple of songs. They always start with the snare and they sound really really similar to one another.

Indeed the drum fills are mediocre and atonal sometimes.

Kollias should really work harder to improve.

Annihilation of the Wicked was close to my favorite where Black Seeds of Vengeance is pretty damn close. I don't know I started listening to this album again today and jamming it really loud. I must say, this is classic Nile, not a classic album, but classic Nile. The riffs are there, the drive is there, the aggression is there, the production is solid as hell. Dig it mucho.

Yeah, Nile is just like that. The title song, "Those Whom The Gods Detest," when played at a maximum volume. Dude, look out, it is massive!

I listen to a shit done of death metal. The fact that you guys dog on Nile shows me you really don't listen to the records very carefully...that you just disregard them because it is Nile or maybe it is elite not to like Nile. To each their own though, but if you actually listen to this record. The riffs are great, the playing is great, and the songs are well put together.

i like some Nile, although i'm not crazy about them. if i'm in the mood for this particular style of dm i usually just go for something like Immolation or even Suffocation.

If you listen to "Karfiri," "Those Whom the Gods Detest," and "Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld." There is some good composition in there. I love the chanting stuff, but you know, if you don't like it, you don't like it.

Haha, no shit. I will say that Immolation have their own unique sound, and I love it. However, disregarding this and loving Immolation doesn't make sense to me. What you said above about Nile could be the same with same with, let's say, CtaWB. It is all over the place.

well, they're certainly much closer to this than other dm bands i have stuff from, like Ulcerate, Morbid Angel, Death, Obituary, At the Gates, Cryptopsy, Entombed etc.

I'm definitely no death metal expert, but I probably have about 50-60 albums of true death metal (not counting most melodeath or deathcore-ish stuff, although I don't have much deathcore at all haha). I'm just wondering who you would put in a category with Nile other than Suffocation? I thought Immolation was close enough in sound (minues to Egyptian stuff and the chanting) to warrant a comparison..

Well, let's see....you have all the american death metal death bands. You have the florida death metal that is completely different from east coast death metal of the days yonder. The style of Immolation is fast, pummeling, and fast riffs ala Nile, but the differences in both bands is one focuses on egyptian themes, sounds, and instruments. Where I would say, the riffs that Immolation play are more unique, dissonant, and disjointed, but sound awesome blending it in the fast picking and such.

well, yeah that was kinda my point. I know they don't sound exactly alike, but for the person that listens to death metal maybe like 10-15% of the time they listen to music, this is pretty close to Immolation; at least when comparing all the different spectrums of death metal out there, I think Nile is closer to Immolation than they are to, say, one of the other bands I mentioned up there.
