The last track is just silence?? is this supposed to be??
EDIT: after all apologies there is twenty something minutes of silence, then rubbing alcohol, all on track 12.

Dude all the songs you gave 4 or higher are the singles(excluding serve the servants), which leaves me to believe you didn't like bleach or incesticide, Very Ape and Milk it are fuking genious and so is Scentless Apprentice tuorettes is all about energy dude. Though I disagree with your thoughts in the album you gave that review was well done

The so called "noise songs" on In Utero are better than the noise songs on "Nevermind". The energy of the fast Nirvana stuff is incredible(especially with Grohl's drumming). The only problem with this album is Kurt's vocals on some of the tracks like RFUS. The live and loud version is soo much better.

what a classic album

Ok whats with the digging at Very Ape? It's one of my personal favourite songs on the album, along with Scentless Apprentice and Radio Friendly... . Gallons of... is very good too. Can I ask why everyone is saying how rubbish Very Ape is? I got my name from that ;quote: I take pride as the King of illliterature, im very ape and very nice;. I own Nevermind aswel, and Unplugged, I love them all, I don't have a favourite album, they're all so different, you can't compare them to each other, they're just such different sounds.

I dont care for your review! nirvana is not grunge. Grunge is just a gimmick something mike arm said for peolpe with plad shirts and torn jeans. and milk it is a good song(it is not noise) same with tourettttes. the whole alnum deserves a 5. very ape is quite good aswell

Ok.

Pretty bad band..
Let's take the Pixies music and just adjust it a little to make it more mainstream..
Yuck.
Thanks for your honesty, I appreciate it, really. I think that when I reviewed it, I saw it differently to when I'd just listen to it. The biggest reason for my liking Nirvana, it's Kurt's emotion that he puts into his music. The unplugged performance is my favourite NIrvana recording, because it does away with all the noise and just allows Kurt's raw emotion to come out. Nirvana were never technically brilliant, but all of Kurt's passion makes up for that. I also agree, Nevermind is excellent, but has nothing on In Utero.
noise
I hate you
While Nirvana was BEFORE punk, they really had nothing to do with it. Their entire lifestyle was grunge. not rock or punk as most people would say. Nirvana was just this really good band that got discovered on the off chance that Seattle suddenly became this huge music scene in the 90s. Trust me, I was there.
BEFORE PUNK! you idiot ramones, black flag, dead kennedys, sex pistols you get the point dumb a_s_s

Nirvana:
Vocals/Guitar: Kurt Cobain
Bass: Krist Noveselic
Drums: Dave Grohl
Genre: Indie/Punk or labeled as 'Grunge'
Brief History Of The Scene:
Probably one of the most anticipated albums of the past decade in their present time Nirvana had made a name for themselves for opening up the so called 'Grunge Music' and the Seattle scene for Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden.
The album starts off with 'Serve The Servents' which is a really laid back feel to it and its somewhat loud lyrics go well with the hard drumming of Grohl's. This definetly sets the tone for the album and is way heaver and more sludgy then anything on Nevermind. "Teenage angst has paid off well / now I'm bored and old" was a great way to open up an album to make the 'fake' Nirvana fans as Cobain would put it paranoid.
'Scentless Apprentice' which is pure energy by Grohl and the band. This track seems to be one of the loudest songs as Cobain screams easily. The song was based on a book read by Cobain I believe called 'Perfume'. It's hard to understand what Cobain is screaming about but this track blows me away with the screams and energy of the band.
'Heart-Shaped Box' is one song to behold from Nirvana. As Noveselic's bass isn't decent but quite good as he's right on time on each area of the song. It's very distinct in this song. Cobain has wrote some very simple songs in his time but 'Heart-Shaped Box changes that as he uses his ability to use abstraction in his lyrics easily. Noveselic's performance can be well over-performed when compared to Come As You Are.
'Rape Me' probably the most well known track by Nirvana to 'non-listeners' just because of it's name. In the start it sounds like another 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' rif-off song but completely takes a different turn in 'Rape Me' its pure energy and simplicity. Grohl's hard energetic drumming and Cobain's loud/moderate screams and shrieks make this track so enjoyable and hard not to like. The dramatic turn between the chorus and the verse is pretty good. And the drumming is really powerful and makes this track shine.
'Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle' is my personal favorite from the whole album is quite load and quiet at times. Cobain/Noveselic/Grohl all have a rock band standard as they weren't 'perseved' to be by Cobain. This song is very creepy at times. With a few listens it's really easy to enjoy.
'Dumb' the next track is a favorite of many on this album. The slow and steady but melodic track really goes well with the cello, as in 'Come As You Are', 'Dumb' is probably the strongest track on the album. Cobain isn't screaming as usual but is more calm and serene.
The fast but effective 'Very Ape' is very simple but a fun listen. This is one of my personal favorites from Nirvana. Though it is a short track it's great to hear the beginning of the song and the quick small drum rolls by Grohl all the way to the end.
The most disturbing track on the album 'Milk It' is easily shown how depressed Cobain is. As he talks about suicide and viruses. It's hard to understand how the lyrics go with the hard thundereous sequences by each member of the band. Though Cobain screams violently it's hard to understand exactly what he's saying as Albini's methods are used well as he uses the distorted guitars and hard drumming to his advantage in this track.
Then comes the great 'Pennyroyal Tea' the guitar solo (though Cobain wasn't a great guitarist) was quite played well especially in this type of song. But I prefer the Unplugged In New York version.
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter with Cobain and Noveselic's stop and go motion is quite fun to listen to. Especially with the distortion. This track seems to be a heavier, faster, and more grungy feel to it then 'Milk It'. This track really shows that Cobain's overpowering voice and Noveselic/Cobain guitar/bass really take this song to the max. Outshining Grohl.
Probably the most disturbing song of Nirvana's 'Tourette's is hard to understand but with Cobain's stop and go vocals it's hard to not like. Probably the easiest lyric to understand is "Cold Heart - Mean Heart". The track is overpowered by Cobain's voice and the a traditional rock performance all-around by the band. The track was originally called The Eagle Has Landed and was created long before the album came out. It's really cool to see how Cobain keeps screaming and as he is the song gets more intense on the way.
All Apologies is probably the best track on this whole album. It's melodic strength and the awe-inspiring voice of Cobain's makes this one of the memorable tracks of the decade. As the track fades with 'All in all, is all we are' the closing track fits perfectly with this band.
Shining Moments:
Serve The Servants
Scentless Apprentice
Heart-Shaped Box
Rape Me
Dumb
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Tourette's
All Apologies
My Grade: 4.5/5
This album is a prime example (in my opinion, as other non-Nirvana fans wouldn't like to think) showed that Nirvana was progressing and would make better albums after the dawn of In Utero.
