I checked several reviews, some rather positive and others neutral to slightly negative. The negative ones I don't get anyway. One is saying the third album is exactly the same as I and II and they should try some new sound, and someone else says that they try too hard to go mainstream and should stick to the old sound. I see contradicting remarks and the best way to form your own opinion is to just listen for yourself. And why should someone even be bothering reviewing if he has hated Billy Talent from the start, you probably have your negative remarks ready before you've even listened to a single track of their new album.
Personally, it took me a moment to get used to this album, since I find it to be quite different. Right now I like the direction they've taken, but I can understand that some oldschool fans are disappointed because it's not the sound they wanted to hear. As for me, I'd give Billy Talent III a 4 out of 5.

Well this website is based around the concept of people putting forward their opinions, so obviously there's going to be some difference in the views people have; it's not contradiction unless it's from the same source.
Personally I was ready to love this; I and II are brilliant records, but III is just such a lazy and unimportant record it's hard to see how they expect it to impress.
Also like to point out that this is the most fanboy'd review in sputnik history - the number of Billy Talent obsessives that have made accounts just to give III a 5/5 and then never come back again is retarded.

@strikey, I wasn't really talking about the reviews being contradicting on this site, posts like "Lol, album su-diddly-ucks" and "lol no album is crap" are hard to get worked up about anyway. Instead I was talking about reviews written by professional reviewers from several other sites. You might have a point that it's not really contradicting if it's not from the same person. However, it got to me that people listening to Billy Talent all got different views on what direction the band should be taking. As a result, whatever way they would have gone, they would always have ended up leaving a certain group of people disappointed. Unless it would have been a work of genius, which it unfortunately is not.
On a side note, I wasn't that enthousiastic at first either. But when I listened to the album several more times I discovered that there are indeed several solid tracks on the album, something that I didn't see at first. So don't dismiss the album the first time you listen to it, instead try it a few times. If you still find it to be crappy after that, then there is little I can say about it.

One of the reviews on sputnik is mine, I played it through 10 times. That was 9 too many ;). There are some 'solid' tracks here (solid implying a lack of wow factor) but it's way way too lazy to merit anything higher than a 3 imo, and I don't even rate it that highly.

I doubt that laziness of the band is the issue. If that would be the problem, little hope is left for them and they'd have to stick to live performances. Instead, they might have lacked the inspiration to come with Fallen Leaves and Red Flag like hits, or they've simple gone a direction that doesn't exactly fit with your music tastes. I must admit that I'm not as enthousiastic to III as I was to I and II, but I also think that most people are a bit exaggerating as to how crappy the album is.
I know Billy Talent has worked a lot to get where they are now, thus to simply write off the album with the argument that the band has been too lazy just doesn't cut it for me.

Jeremy Price, you nailed it. Thank you for basically saying everything I felt about this album.
The band needs some of their original and oh-so captivating passion. I'm just not feeling it here.

Man this album was a let down.
You can tell it's just aimed towards angsty teenagers dealing with breakups.
What I don't like about this is it is about themselves, thus losing honesty.
The past albums were about characters and stories.
Suicidal kids, 40 year old business men, Prostitutes and so on so forth.
These songs are about nothing. Just about feeling sad in general.
