I saw that they were coming back and it reminded me these guys stopped the show for a prayer lmao

that was pretty common, especially back then. even among bands you have rated highly.

I guess I just rarely experienced it or didn't see the bands that did aside from this band. Only other thing I can really remember was Underoath doing bible study and Fat Mike form NOFX hating on em

I have no problem with bands being religious but that seems so indulgent/self righteous

i'd hold that in the same regard as making political speeches or statements on stage which is very very common. and for today mostly played all christian bills, like if you go to "scream the prayer tour" and are upset at some preaching then idk lol

For me it was on a mixed bill with several bands across core genres. But I'd argue politics are more relevant to the general population as it influences everyone's life whether they want to talk about it or not. Religion is way more personal and unique to individuals and punk/hardcore has always been political in nature since the 80s. Of course that has become less prevalent in modern day but I think this behavior can be interpreted differently by people

that's definitely a fair perspective to have. i suppose i just find overwrought political statements to be just as divisive or cringeworthy. at least i believe prayer usually comes from a genuine well meaning place, politics these days come from more of a place of hatred. at least in my experience.

Totally get that! Especially with rapidly evolving technology forcing info down our throats. People have become inherently reactionary because they are more exposed to the awful shit in the world. It really has killed a lot of nuance and fact based arguments in politics and world events because people react off emotion. Not that there isn't a lot of awful shit going on in the world but there is better ways to go about it imo. I'm trying to find that balance in not being terminally online and being more thought out when speaking on politics cuz shit is crazy out there

couldn't have said it any better myself friend. the internets ubiquity is a double edged sword and it's catastrophic social decay becomes more apparent to me every passing year.
