So, as a young pre-teen/teenager, I'd always ignore the last two songs on this album since they weren't super energetic with screams but In a Lose, Lose Situation has completely consumed my mind for the past week.
Devin's voice is smooth like a nice whiskey and his songs are always my favorite Emery tracks - Playing With Fire, By All Accounts (Today Was a Disaster), and Lose, Lose are probably my top 3 from them.
It's funny but I feel like this album has only gotten better with age. The production is perfect and it's as infectiously catchy as it's ever been.

those are all amazing classics. I agree how powerful Lose Lose can be.
|
| |
What's Emery like?
|
| |
They have a few different eras. They used to be screamo with double harmonizing vocalists now they are more just rock n roll song writers. They've gotten better with each album but their last three are what people say is their best stuff
|
| |
cool will czech
|
| |
If we're talking harmony vocals, they're the Beach Boys of post hardcore
|
| |
I agree
|
| |
yup, both vocalists match perfectly.
|
| |
Last 2 songs on this are two of the best back to back songs ever
|
| |
This shit holds up really well.
|
| |
It really does
|
| |
fucking hell this is fire
|
| |
you're fire
|
| |
I fucking am aren't I
"pardon me for saying so but, you look more pitiful than i had ever imagined"
talk about fire got damn Toby
|
| |
The lyrics on this whole album are so good, and I'm not normally a lyric guy
|
| |
yeah that always immediately struck me first time hearing it, pretty much their whole discography has above average lyricism at worst
|
| |
The lyrics on their earlier stuff was always solid gold

a small step down from the debut but still really great. first 5 songs had me thinking it was their best maybe. definitely trails off in the second half until the closing duo which are incredible. i miss some of that rawer edge, def miss having more screams. opener and studying politics are just immense. they write hooks like nobody else.
also really cool concept with the album being the question and that question being completed by every song title prefaced by "where were you when i was". that said some of lyrics felt much more hit or miss especially listening to freddie mercury which was really corny and kind of irritating but that could just be because this album is more polished.

The first 5 songs are my fav Emery tracks of all time lol
|
| |
A buddy in high school would always ask me to play "that song" whenever he was in my car. It was Studying Politics
