'Drawn To Black' is my absolute favorite, although the tracks 'At the Gates of Sleep' & 'In the Groves of Death' are close behind.

@ Hollier18, we are both on the same boat I think. No other band or artist have succeeded in captivating me nor touched me as emotionally as Insomnium and this album have.

However, I'm afraid you can't really base your review on that aspect, considering the emotion given off from this album is pretty much entirely subjective and therefore taken from a very biased point of view.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the two dudes who rated this as a 2.5 have looked at it from more of an objective standpoint, looking at it for what it is rather then what it is to you.

Insomnium remain my personal favorite band of all time, even amidst all the better stuff I listen to.

I can see where coming from with that, especially from the review part of it, i did say that i hope it doesnt come across as too 'fanboyist' or 'biased' which i can see some people could see my review as just that. Yes my review is pretty subjective compared to others, but dont we all have personal favourite albums? Ive seen that come across in more than one review of other albums. Personally i feel the album in a practical sense does more than enough to back up the feelings i get from this album, but again its personal preference and ill take on board what you said ;).

OK, I'll correct you. You're wrong. The two dudes that rated it 2.5 are far MORE biased than Hollier. If you look around the internet, most people rate this album at or close to a 5. And over and above that, ALL reviews are biased to a certain extent, as ALL reviews are inevitably at their root subject to and based on inherent preferences.

actually mate you're wrong. just because 'most people' rate an album close to a 5, doesn't mean that everyone else should and are wrong for not doing so; their opinion is just as correct as anyone elses. believe it or not 'most people' are stupid.

its easy to see why someone wouldn't like insomnium: they play standard melodeath like everyone else in the genre with little to no innovation. people who are experienced in the genre have heard this all before

I didn't say that they were wrong for doing so. I simply stated that they were more biased. I am also aware that many albums are unjustifiably touted by the ignorant mainstream masses. However, this is FAR from a mainstream offering, and those few who do know about this album and genre overwhelmingly find it to be an excellent album. And while there may be nothing new, innovative or technically stunning about this album, Insomnium certainly have their own distinctive and highly refined sound. With this album Insomnium have in my opinion achieved something truly exceptional, and yet to be surpassed in terms of overall impact.
