it took me a while to appreciate struggle within, i didnt used to like it, but its grown on me and now i really really like it. i think black is a good album, standout tracks are unforgiven, wherever i may roam, sad but true and holier than thou.

I found it hard to pick a song or two on this album that were my favorites, i can listen to the whole album through and through before ever getting bored of it. Also agreed with Bahamut_ali on the issue of enter sandman and nothing else matters, why do you think ppl would like them in the first place!

I agree with King Danroth. The Black Album is a classic album and if you are a true Metallica fan you would learn to appreciate all their albums. If they kept the same style every album, that'd just get boring, but they bring out something new everytime and keep people guessing. I don't care what people say, maybe St. Anger is not as good as previous albums but it's still a damn good album and i enjoy listening to it. Learn to appreciate all Metallica!! And The Struggle Within is the best song on the Black Album in my opinion. But yeah I love all the songs. This Message Edited On 03.19.06

St. Anger, quite frankly is the ugliest, most unforgiving and possibly most badly produced album of all time. But there's something so new and fresh about the sound that makes me appreciate it so much. There's nothing quite like it around (that I've heard anyway).

I can't help that I like all of Metallica's albums, but I'm pretty sure the reason I do is because they continue to evolve (or sell-out, whatever) instead of clinging to the sounds of their youthful and ever-admired past. The variety in music they create is what has kept the world talking about them, rather than eight stale albums that sound the same.

Bah. I give up.

This is an awesome album. Not as Good As Mater of Puppets or Ride The Lightning but still awesome. Litterally every song is good.

Don't tread on me deserves at least a four. Cool review though, and an awesome album.

Over the years i have grown out of this album. I prefer all their work before this album was released. The Unforgiven is still one of my favorite songs however.

How does this album have a rating of only 4.2 . It's by far their best album. There's some good metal songs in there, but there's also some lighter songs more classical songs to show that there more than just a band with power chords and fast solos. Speaking of the solos, they were flawless, especially the one from NEM and the Unforgiven both just completing the song and the huge bends in both gave them a really emotional feel. The solos in MFOM were also genius with great use of the wah pedal i think this album should be up around 4.7 considering that Master of Puppets has 4.6 and this album definetly beats that one

their best album is AJFA, this is just a little bland, i dont think it will ever match up to the near masterpiece that AJFA is

I think the Black Album was where we first saw Metallica using "filler" songs. On the previous albums, every song was pure, original, and fucking good.

^^^^^^^
True, although I'd say And Justice... had a little filler on it, more in terms of actual parts of songs than the songs themselves.
This is a great, classic album, but it will never touch the sheer cosmic greatness that is Master Of Puppets.
