I think I'm being misunderstood...I have no problem with a band who is, lets say, demonic-thats who they are and what they believe/stand for and I have no problem with that. Just slayer says god doesnt exist, fair enough, but then they put christ on the cover of an album. Why? because its startling and makes people notice-thats not talent, thats marketing ploy and music is about passion.

You raise a good point here, however, they are one of the most consistent bands in history which is worth respecting whether you like their music or not. We all have our repetitive things that we like and to alot of metalheads, Slayer symbolizes the essence of what metal is, regardless if it's for shock factor or not.

Tom Araya believes in a supreme being and comes from a Catholic background. He's not anti religous and the fact they use startling imagery is because it's all in theme with what the band is doing. Music is about passion but it can also be based around themes or merely whatever the fuck the band thinks cool. Why's it such a problem?

thats just my opinion man...i dont like or respect them, never will, i'd tell kerry or tom to their faces
|

No you wouldn't because kerry king would probably snap you in half with a shake of his metal-as-fuck beard

You idiot. Metal is SUPPOSED to startle you, it's SUPPOSED to make you take notice of what it's communicating. That's the whole basis of the entire genre, from the lyrics on Black Sabbath's first album, to the ubiquitous distorted guitars, to the musical structures themselves - every single aspect of the genre is meant to make the listener wake up and confront unpleasant realities. It's not a "contradiction" and you're not "clever" for having discovered something that everyone else has somehow missed. Stroke your ego elsewhere.

ANGEL OF DEATH
MONARCH TO THE KINGDOM OF THE DEAD
INFAMOUS. BUTCHER.
ANGEL OF DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEATHHH!
SLAYER M/
I'd rate this higher if it wasn't because it feels like a huge song and finishes too quickly. And Tom's vocals, they aren't as good here as in South of Heaven and specially Seasons in the Abyss.
Everything else ****ing owns, though.

I love Jesus saves Angel of Death Raining blood and Altar of sacrifice other than that I could do without as the other songs just seem like filler.

For anyone that takes a stance against Slayer's religious views, or what their songs are about, it's irrelevant. There have been various interviews with Tom Arraya where he says it's mostly an act to sell more albums and please their fan base. If you listen to any Slayer Live Albums or watch any footage from their Live Shows, they are actually the NICEST guys I think I've ever seen. I've seen countless videos of Arraya telling people to "have a good time" and "be safe" in between songs which is very different from Hardcore bands these days that try and incite riots...
Also, as stated, Arraya grew up Catholic and is now Agnostic.
