Well apart from harping on Barr's "pretention" in relation to the lyrics, you have unnecessary jabs like "...and a concept that is perhaps lapped up by your typical indie kid proudly displaying his Burzum t-shirt and his newfound love of 'atmospherics.'" The review is not so much a description of the album as much as a lashing out at the general idea of Barr making a black metal album, and the people who listen to that kind of music; I know tons of people, typically black metal purists, who responded in this same way. It just sounds like the writer has a distaste for not just the music but the people behind it.This Message Edited On 01.27.09

And so what? I hardly doubt he wrote this review simply because he can't stand the idea of Barr making a black metal album. The review does well to challenge both the musical and lyrical/conceptual elements of the album, and devsol keeps it interesting with his dry wit. Sure, you could say his Wintersun review was a bit of a rant, but I think you're just picking on this review because of that. Get over it.

No, I didn't read the Wintersun review, don't care. This isn't going anywhere so I'll drop it.

It just sounds like that's your misguided interpretation of the writer.
Bitch and whine all you want, the fact that someone wrote a negative review of an album you like does not change the fact that the writer or the review is actually good, well-written and makes valid points. So no matter how much you want to sit there and nit pick the review to find the tiniest thing wrong and exploit it to the nth degree or better yet, find absolutely nothing wrong but convince yourself it is anyway because it doesn't coincide with your opinion is a waste of time.

Just because YOU can't find valid criticisms for things you deem sub-par doesn't mean that other people can't. Your butthurt ego is of no relevance to anyone but yourself. This Message Edited On 02.01.09

Album is fucking mind blowing. I don't really care that it follows the same tremelo picked riffs through every tune. It's all about the where the tremelo picking takes you and I'm loving it.

I'm disappointed in you Karl, disappointed :P

It's just it's noting different. From a sonic perspective, this album can be really refreshing. Musically it could be a lot more refined.
I would disagree with you there, this is very different from pretty much all black metal, and most music in general. I don't disregard its uniqueness, I just think it sounds terrible.
