This album makes me cry. It's so beautiful in an unorthodox way.
It is the sixties. It embodies the spirit of an age lost, a time of lost innocence and a changing world. A time of conflict without sight of resolution. The sound of being left behind, the sound of alienation and disillusionment. And yet, the sound of a glorious age of excitement where pain and pleasure intermingle for one unifying experience. This Message Edited On 07.23.07

I'm thinking about posting a review for this album here shortly. Problem is I haven't entirely made up my mind yet on what I think about it. I think I'll listen one more time first.

Great review....scratches head at ppl giving it bad reviews... 0.5 ...what the f**K????
They practically brought drugs, sex and poetry into rock and roll
even though it was released 3 months after The Doors debut, its delay was held up due to Warhols Peel and see cover design....
If it had been released on time history may have be different.

well first off i do enjoy this album. so its a 5 out of 5 for being the classic it is. what is important though is for people to realize, even if they dont enjoy the music, what brilliance and the level of a breakthrough it created. whether it sounds savage or not, it is brilliant.

This album is absolutely wonderfull.
My only problem here is the inclusion of Nico. Man, Am I glad she fell of a bike and died. Otherwise we may have been subjected to a possible solo album.

I feel to see the draw to this band or this album. Some of the musicianship is worth hearing, but the vocals are just horrible - Nico is not for me. I think the reason this is rated as so influential is because for the time it was avant-garde, and it was backed powerfully by the 60's underground culture and Andy Warhols legion of fans (his popularity remains a mystery to me as well)
It was a good review though, good job. This Message Edited On 09.16.08

This album practically defines "acquired taste."
Somebody said earlier--it has that uncanny ability to really make you WANT to listen again.

My only problem here is the inclusion of Nico. Man, Am I glad she fell of a bike and died. Otherwise we may have been subjected to a possible solo album. Hmm.. didn't Nico make 6 solo albums 1967-85, AFTER she'd quit the band. She died in 88 at the age of 49.
