this review is so godawful.
"Don't let these jaguar pirates steal your treasure; these Blood Brothers don't deserve one bit of your treasure." gross. gross. gross.
I understand it's hard to review an album fairly, there's going to be a bias slanting either to the positive or negative. I just think this reviewer shouldn't have bothered. The conclusion basically seems to be "don't listen to this album", rather than "not what I was expecting / I am dissapointed" (though that's voiced). ANYWAY.
I initially just got this album for jaguar pirates. Couldn't see much charm in the other songs. Not sure what happened, but eventually I started listening to more and more. I absolutely love this album. It reminds me of portugal. the man's early stuff. The man with the plastic suns is probably my current favorite.

'Take Me To The Sea' is an endearing release for the Johnny Whitney faithful. Whereas 'Hologram Jams' is an empty electro-pop mess, Jaguar Love's first LP carries with it the feel of a nuts and bolts rock band: bass, guitar, drums, vocals, keys. I personally find myself coming back to this over and over again for such mammoth tracks as "Georgia", "Highways Of Gold", "Bats Over The Pacific Ocean", and "The Man With The Plastic Suns". If you miss 'The Blood Brothers' and are open to a different side of Johnny's songwriting do not pass this up. Like I said, its more rock-driven (less atonal, math rocky as BB were) yet this really opens up the gates for Whitney's iconic howl to shine. Seriously these are some of the most mind-blowing vocals you'll hear anywhere. Certainly a grower; give it a few spins and get ready to have the hooks in your head for weeks. Take the ride to the sea, its more than worth it.
