Serpento: Personally, I hate reviews that have no "take" on the album being reviewed. That being said, the best album reviewers avoid personal biases as best they can. But having a take doesn't mean you forget about musical content. Instead, the take/opinion of the album is based on the album itself and all the factors which make good albums, not subjective feelings. Sorry if that sounds pretentious.

If you think I'm being anal about this stuff, and pretentious and shit, well I'm nothing compared to some of the reviewers you'll find on the internet. There's actually a science behind it, I don't know if you've read in to it or anything. Listen, anyone can make their personal feelings in to a review (not that having an opinion is wrong, obviously). That's why there has to be some higher standard of writing reviews. So people can find out what's really good and what's not, and so hacks don't take over.
