The reviewer is a classical elitist. Classical elitist should not be reviewing rock albums. Just like metalheads should not be reviewing soul albums.
Though I gotta say, the Yellow Submarine description is spot on. This Message Edited On 06.08.08

Lulz judging by his avatar, this is either: (1) an evocative joke used to make us argue amongst our selfs over the validity of what counts for a good review or (2) Good ol' troll in a can.

Probably because you can't construct a meaningful sentence. Either that or he just thinks you're retarded.
Anywho, I'm Only Sleeping is an awesome song. Haven't heard the whole album though. This Message Edited On 06.08.08

This review is an attention-seeking pile of wank. If you think the music of the Beatles was dumbed down for Western society, you're completely retarded. Seriously.
Anyone who cannot even appreciate the Beatles does not appreciate music. We will be talking about Lennon and McCartney in the future the same way we talk of classical composers. Just you wait and see.

If this is in fact a serious review, I would argue that you prize instrumental mastery over everything else that can make musical enjoyable and valuable. While I certainly understand criticisms related to instrumentation, I think the idea that music must be complex to be valuable is a narrow perspective on music. Simplicity can be genius, and music can be important for melody, rhythm, beat, cultural impact, and countless other reasons besides musicianship.

Joke review or not, the review was well written in terms of style and grammar, and it brings up a very interesting point. I definitely disagree that something like The Beatles can possibly be compared to Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, etc.; they are entirely different worlds of music. Yes, the music uses very fundamental ii-V-I or I-IV-V chord progressions, but that does not mean it is not an incredible artistic endeavor.
Why, though, should these two worlds of music not merge? Why can't we have advanced compositional techniques in rock music? Classical guitar certainly proves that these instruments are plenty capable of performing that caliber of music.
And if this reviewer is serious, the notion that the Beatles began the degradation of Western society is absurd. The time when the Beatles were active as a group was a time of political activism and cultural revolution. With the current political state in America, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar rises again very soon.
