I dont think Dime is overrated, but hes definately not the best guitar player to walk the earth. But he was Amazing. I think his guitar tone is awesome tho. Its unique, and good for the music he plays IMO.
Anyways, Classic cd. Love these guys.

But a lot of people think he was at least one of the best. And he really wasn't. His tone, well, its metal. Let me clarify: the riffs sound quite good, but the solos sound miserable. That's just me, though.

I believe this album is a classic, in my opinion it helped change the face of Metal. One of the best metal bands ever. One of the Greatest Guitar players of all time RIP Dimebag Darrell. I would have to say this album is my favorite Pantera albums and one of my favorites of all time

Decent album, nothing more. Instrumentally there is nothing outstanding, Rex and Vinnie are about par on bass and drums respectively and Dimebag I consider to be better than average but not anywhere near as good as I've read a lot of people say so far in their comments. Apart from the title track, Cemetary Gates and Sleep I find the album quite repetitive and the songs seem to drag on a fair bit, especially with Dimebag's chugga-chugga approach to rhythm work. Phil's vocals are enjoyable, but once again I don't think he's all that special - basically Rob Flynn with a southern accent and falsetto. Having only been 2 years old at the time of its release I can't really comment on its influence on the metal genre but considering Painkiller, . . . And Justice For All and a couple of other big name albums were released around the same time I'm going to assume it took a bit of a backseat to them. tbqh as well, I probably prefer their glam metal stuff to what I've heard from after Cowboys

it has a few good songs

I disagree. I love this album personally, plenty of gold. Cemetray Gates, Domination, Shattered, ftw.

I used to listen to this album more, but I got bored of it and realised that apart from a few songs (Cemetery Gates, Cowboys from Hell, Dominion) I didn't really like a lot of it.

This cd is great. It's strange to hear Phil hit some of those high notes on this cd. To masada..... dime bag has the worst tone? Right, that's why he had a signature guitar and pedals made. Dimebag had one of the most amazing and recognizable guitar tones of any guitarist ever.

I like this more than VDoP, more consistent. Also this album shows off Phil's vocal range, which is quite impressive, better than any other Pantera album. Very headbangable and entertaining metal to say the least. And Cemetery Gates is probably one of the greatest heavy metal songs of the 90s.
