Drunken Viking dont worry I know that he has a whiney voice in a lot of songs... im just pointing out that A7X seems to like Coheed and Cambria, who has another high pitched somewhat whiney singer. I think thats one reason that I lean towards believing that Shadows prefers singing over screaming, if theyre gonna be touring with bands like Coheed I dont think Shadows wants to scream too much anymore

Even if they weren't going to tour with C&C he wouldn't scream that much, he wouldn't wanna fuck up his chords again.

Man thats too bad he can't scream anymore but I still like his singing voice. Like someone else said it'd be nice if he could to half and half. Half screaming and half singing, but oh well.

Because theyre touring with C&C isnt a reason that shadows wont be singing, but its a clue that theyre style is going to stay more towards this lighter punkish rock compared to their heavier past. Who knows mebbe theyll surprise all their new and old fans with something just like WTF for their next album, but it looks like theyre staying with this style of music
With no song shorter than 4:58 (“Burn it Down”) and most songs averaging 6-7 minutes, this is certainly not going to receive a lot of radio or MTV support.
Well they did have to cut out big amounts of parts in both their singles.

What don't you like about it?

Well, i have Waking The Fallen and i quite like it.. I know that the vocalist can't scream anymore because of the throat problem and all... But still, I don't really like the way he sings now, it's too whiny, and it seems to me that the band changed their sound to suit the their vocalist's style of singing... I really like Waking The Fallen because of the epicness(is that a word?!?), but on the City Of Evil, it seems like the guitarists try to show off their skill or something ,the lyrics also aren't as good as Waking The Fallen... Mind you, it's only my opinion..

it's not the greatest but it shows thier potential to do great.
they we're going for epic here...BIG. the first time i listened i didn't notice...but now i see the pink floyd-ish influence (how come that wasn't mentioned)...
these guys just may set a high bar that most of the metal community is not going to be able to reach.
and no,i'm not a a7x fan.This Message Edited On 03.06.06

After reading the review again I saw something about the non screaming and had to
coment.
When you guys learn. Shadows is not screaming due to the fact he doesn't want to, the
vocal surgery had nothing to due with it. He had surgery before They did the Warped
Tour supporting Waking The Fallen. This Message Edited On 03.08.06

I think this is a great album. It's different from their last two albums, that's for sure. But i think that Shadows and the rest of the guys in Avenged are just trying something different. The throat surgery played a big part in the sound of the album, but who knows maybe they'll go back to the way their old stuff was. Before City of Evil came out i was anticipating it so much. I dont hate the album but its not the greatest of theirs. I will also be anticipating any other Avenged Sevenfold albums coming out in the future, wether theres screaming or singing or whatever. Avenged Sevenfold is a great, creative band, and they do deserve some credit, not a bunch of kids sittin on their computers pissin about the album.

Does Shadows still scream at concerts when they play their old stuff? Or has he just completely stopped?

He just says it for the most parts, he'll let out a scream every once in a while but he doesn't do it for al the songs.

That's really dissappointing. I guess I won't be seeing A7X live anytime soon.

It's really not that bad, he doesn't use his CoE voice, it's actually kinda nice.

I dunno, I recognise all the reasons why I should dig this, but somehow it just won't click for me. I'm not trashing the band or anything, they're really good at what they do, I'm just saying it doesn't do it for me.
Maybe it's cos I used to be in a band with the fattest, hairiest, most unclean drummer on the planet, whose favourite bands were A7X and The Used, and who got drunk one night and tried to get with our bass player...who's a six foot tall guy. There's now somthing in my mind that goes 'A7X?' 'Bing!' "Bisexual drum rape'
I'm preeeeetty sure it's just me though.

that was a little too much information. This album clicked with my right away! Though i would love to see A7X go back to heavier music, I can definitely settle for this.

I will admit that Beast And The Harlot is a great song though. Good to listen to when you're cruising around town on a friday night feeling badass. Until the chorus, anyway.
