NOFX had similar views on politics but Green Day was the first to make popular.
Bad Religion, buddy.
All the other bands who use politics are copying off of Green Day to be "cool".
Look up.

Actually, the only political songs on this album are American Idiot and Holiday. The other two singles - Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Wake Me Up When September Ends - aren't really political, and the unreleased tracks tell a story about two or three fictional characters (Are St. Jimmy and Jesus of Suburbia the same person?) and the way their lives intermingle.

Green Day have always been the best pop-punk band - even though they aren't really pop-punk because when they started punk wasn't really that popular. This album is merely an affirmation that fact.

can everyone just shut up and let them do what they want, no one is forcing u to listen to it. And dont say its cuz its all over the radio. Turn it off and u have no problem. Download something u like and u never have to hear of it again. but since a lot of u are just so into media bull, u prefer listening to something u dont like but talk about all the freakin time. get a life. there is no such thing as "they suck" or "they are good." Its all opinion ad keep it to yourselves. It seems u guys wanna have ur voices heard cuz for once u stopped lookin at gay sites, took ur hand outa ur pants and decided "hey, why dont i just piss ppl off!!" suck a lemon's rear-endThis Message Edited On 10.14.05

That was probably one of the most ignorant and ill-conceived comments that I have read (then again, I highly doubt that). This whole site was created so people could voice their opinions on music and the artists that create the music, not just to talk about whatever music they like.

Of course, that is my opinion.
Why can't Green Day use politics? You obviously like these other bands, is it because Green Day isn't punk enough to do it. You all just wan't a reason to complain about Green Day and politics was your choice.
Green Day can be political as much as they want, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that they know absolutely nothing of what they are speaking out about. Instead of being more learned, they blatantly accuse the Bush Administration (and America, at that) of things that they never really back up. "Holiday" contains one of the worst bridges (or interlude) that I have ever heard. "pulverising Eiffel Towers"? And on "American Idiot", they go as far as to accuse the media as brainwashing, and the American people as ignorant, besides the fact that they themselves are just as ignorant as the rest of the general public.

American Idiot isn't a political album, in the sense of Bad Religion's The Empire Strikes First. It is, more or less, a sloppy pseudo-opera with a slight social consciouness that is an underlying factor throughout the album.
This line is meant to symbolise Bush's hate for the French.
What hate for the French? Nowhere have I read of the Bush Administration publicly speaking out against the French in a hateful or hostile way. The American People are those who falsely accuse the citizens and government of France of so many things, not the administration themselves. This just seems like another Billie Joe Armstrong ignorant rant, and I'm beggining to become tired of his politics ("Fuck George Bush", "This song isn't anti-American, it's anti-waaaaar"). Maybe if the nimrod actually took the time to investigate for himself about what the administration does instead of jumping on the anti-war bandwagon, he would avoid this giant case of irony and stupidity.

there is something wrong with green day being political. they didnt start off that way. they used to sing about masturbation(longview) and teenage insecurity(basketcase). but they became political now that that is the cool thing. bands such as bad religion or pennywise have always been political. and yeah green day doesnt have any clue what theyre talking about.

I dont get how green day get labeled as political when only American Idiot and Holiday are political, and not even well written.

sorry my friend told me how to quote earlier but i didnt remember...any way whoever said Billie Joe needed to learn how to play guitar should be shot cuz he can outplay almost every one the solos in 1039 are crazy and just cuz he messed up doesnt mean anything, thats like saying a pro skateboarder sucks because he messed up on a kickflip down an 8 stair....it doesnt mean anything

o and people need to stop saying that they sold out just because they made a good album and alot of people recognized it for what it was so all you people who think it sucks can shut up because they are the ones who had to work to get where theyre at now they had to play local dives and make their own shirts for spare money so when you have a fanbase of millions lets see what you do with it do you just play it safe and make mediocre music or do you take a risk and make a hell of a good album like them

o and WMUWSE has nothing to do with politics and the video is just trying to place it in the story of the album...the song in one interpretation is a period of rest for the Jesus of Suburbia and in the other is about Billies Dad who died when he was young and the month of september always seems to bring him bad luck

lots of bands had to do this, but green day's fanbase is made up of tons of mostly little poser kids who don't know what punk is, okay?
