The single for "L'via L'viaquez" has another song called "The Bible and the Breathalyzer". I'm going to have to buy the single now. Darn it.

'The Bible and the Breathalyzer' is an odd song... it's more like an ambient track with spoken words reciting a story and spazzy outbursts of music going on quietly in the back.

If anything, the closest Mars Volta song it reminds me of is 'Ambuletz' off of Deloused. Just in no way as soothing as that was. I dunno what you guys think though.

I take back what I said before... this is a 4.5/5. This album has grown on me, now that I've gotten over the odd Spanish lyrics and the ambient sections and decided to listen to it, and I love everything. Except Miranda... I still don't like that song.

apc is not prog... tool is to some degree. Prog is as it almost always was -- struggling for air just underneath the water.

I think the strings on the album are really understated, though they're not way up in the mix most of the time. They add a lot to the music.

I like this a lot more than De-Loused in the Comatorium now.

this album would be perfect if it didn't have so much random noise filler, Miranda that Ghost isn't Holy Anymore has like 4 minutes of junk random sounds before actually starting.

I think the ambient parts are just a way of separating and flowing the album - it's not like they have no purpose and are filller.

If the album didnt have them, it would basically be " Cool Riff 1 + Cool Riff + Vocals 2..." and so on, and I think the music would end up being aurally overpowering, if that makes sense. I was listening to the song 'Francis The Mute' in bed last night and I realised that apart from being slightly annoying, the clashing sounds for the fisrt minutes of the track build more and more anticipation for the songs eventual release. Its all about drama and allowing the listener to understand whats going on - if the whole album lacked the interludes I think it would be more daunting for the listener to try and understand.

Ohhhhh...and what were your guys opinions on 'The Bible and The Breathalyzer'??

I haven't heard either "Frances the Mute" or "The Bible and the Breathalyzer" yet, mainly because I've never found them in stores. I know that "The Bible and the Breathalyzer" is part of the "L'via L'viaquez" single, but it's hard to find around here for some reason. "Frances the Mute" is impossible to find. :upset:

Tracklisting =

1. Cygnus
2. The Widow
3. L'via
4. Miranda
5-9. Cassandra A, B, C, D, and E
10. Frances The Mute A. In Thirteen Seconds
11. Frances The Mute B. Nineteen Sank, While Six Would Swim
12. Frances The Mute C. Five Would Grow, And One Was Dead

The album has the tracklisting down the back on the cover to the end of the Cassandra Gemmini's, then the Frances The Mute parts A, B, and C are underneath where the Cd is kept.

Anyway this is a great album, its almost too intricate and deep. Can get frustrating to listen to at times but still is an awesome album.

4.5/5 for me
