Sound exactly like them? You're saying that being generic means they have to sound like another band.

They take the same formula...breakdowns...and employ them in almost every song.

Solos sound so different from each other; breakdowns it's almost always the same. DUH DUH DUH DUH/CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG.This Message Edited On 08.22.07

true true, but that goes for breakdowns, they come at different times, they are done in different keys, breakdowns are used for makeing a statement. People say breakdowns are predictable but so is mostly everything else, you know about in the middle of the song usually after the chorus a solo is going to hit. just like solos, breakdowns are used to change the pace, instead of be fast paced, breakdowns are used in the same way but doing the exact opposite to slow down the normal tempo while being heavy. Really I think its in taste of what you like, I just happen to like both

I like it when it's done "properly" - Unearth, HORSE the band, ASP.

Anyway, these guys have like 3 breakdowns in every song and they all sound the same.

Im not seeing it, listening to "HTML Rulez D00D" the different breakdowns are either at a slower pace, or faster, or hitting different strings. Really theirs no way to make a breakdown to sound too different, you just put them following different spots with different cords at the end to fit the song. I think you guys are expecting breakdowns to be like solos, when there two entirely different ways to approach aggression.

Why not just do away with the extremely repetetive breakdowns and try to be more original?

I know, CRAZY idea, right?

I don't find them repeative at all, if anything they fit right into the music, there riffs are pretty interesting, so is there song writeing. yes they are not super orginal, but they are by far generic. Do you guys like anything with a -core in it without be some kind of Death Metal influcence? This is not suppose to be super melodic, its suppose to be stop and go, changing speeds, playign with your emotions.

Metalcore dominates 20% of my musical taste, according to my super nifty pie chart, actually. I just don't think this band bring much to the plate. All that is is my humble opinion.

they are by far generic

Meant to say 'They are far from generic?', I assume?

Ya, for some reason this band seems different, the epic sounding of the keyboard(even tho its not techincal at all, jus the atmosphere of it), the melodies are hooky, and the breakdowns(imo) are well placed. The only thing that bothers me is the clean vocals really

It's the clean vocals that are the final blow for me...I just can't stand them. There is something about the voice that annoys me.

Em the horrible scream, the unvaried shift from clean to harsh vocals, the excess of repetitive breakdowns, the stupid pinch harmonics at the end to seem like its unique, the overuse of arpeggios..

Clean vocals just sound immature but the actual melodies are not bad. I would have to agree that they overly use the same breakdowns throughout the album and there isn't much skill involved in the performance. But I mean you have to admit the screaming is pretty intense, not weak at all.
