Bellamy is definately one of the most talented musicians out there. He's got an awesome voice, can play the hell out of a piano (as evidenced in Sunburn and Space Dementia), wail like a madman (Plug in Baby and Micro Cuts), and riff with the best of them (Plug in Baby and Citizen Erased), not to mention the awesome apocolypse woe is me lyrics. Awesome...that's all I can really say to describe this record. But as good as a record sounds, they are that much better live. I saw them this past May, and they rocked the place! Matt was playing behind his back, with his teeth, the keyboard had all kinds of crazy lights on it...definately good times.
5/5

this isnt muse's newest cd, it was resently released in the US but it was released in the UK in 2001. i didnt know if you guys knew that or not judging by your comments. this is a great cd in my opinion, it may not be as mixed down and booming than absolution, but i like the raw feel to it. there is also a buncha synth lines that ad mood to the songs and the riffs feel a bit more catchy and just emotional. i mean absolution had emotion, but when you compare it to this album its more conformed and built for mainstream. this album is just artistic bliss.

I'm seeing a lot of "what's greater... Absolution or Origin?" I think that Origin has better songs, but Absolution makes a better album. Origin doesn't have much of a theme, while Absolution stays with their apocalyptic theme.
So Absolution>Origin.

Dude, Space Dementia is such a solid song. It starts up a little slow and that is a turn off but the sweet mix of decent sounding piano (which I usually dislike), drums, and some guitar/bass play is absolutely unbeatable. The vocals are absolutely awesome. This gives a really solemn, brooding feel to the song. The piano adds a lot to the song, and makes it very catchy. I agree that Citizen Erased is probably the best song on the CD, but don't discredit other songs just because of their lack of mainstream appeal.

My favourite album of all time. If I hadn't have heard Bliss back in early 2002 and picked this album up days later, I would be a very different person.
Everything about this album is superb. I love the more commercial, hard-rock first half of the album, Newborn being a classic opener and it's followed up perfectly by Bliss, Space Dementia, Hyper Music and Plug In Baby.
But what I really like is the change during Citizen Erased from the heavy-rock oriented feel to a much darker, sinister passage that carries on to the end of the album, highlighted perfectly by Screenager, Micro Cuts and Megalomania.
The only blip for me is Feeling Good which I really can't be doing with, I think it feels very out of place with the rest of the album and would have fit much better on Showbiz.
That aside, a class album, well worthy of a 5/5 in my opinion.

In my opinion Feeling Good does feel out of place...but so does Hyper Music. The only difference btwn them is that Hyper Music is better. However i am still able to listen through the whole album without skipping...a rare occurence for an album...
yay for muse!

it seems most people enjoy this more than Showbiz or Absolution, but i can never pick!

One of the few albums i can listen to without skipping. I'm amazed that i even like those weird songs on it
and I love the riff at the end of micro cuts.... Its like a big building of tension then a release all at once. There are some parts in the songs that turn the whole album from good to great

I think this is pretty good, but I think the ''buzz'' around muse is record label hyped.
I downloaded a ringtone of plug in baby, hoping for that amazing riff, and got the crappy chorus melody..

This is exactly what makes this album so great; the wide range of appeal, from mainstream to artistic. My only beef with the album is Micro Cuts though, and I actually really like Screenager.
