Not a good review; emo stereotype is painful. There's plenty of good emo bands out there.
1. The Used is not emo.
2. Emo is not about cutting yourself.

Have you guys ever considered the fact that maybe if all of us internet message board music dudes have one definition of emo and the general public has a different one, maybe we're the ones that are wrong?

Yes I have.
And tribestros, I know that the used is not emo, and I know its not about cutting yourself. Emo is Saetia, Hot Cross, Off Minor, Orchid, Cap'n Jazz, Pg.99, whatever. So just drop it.

Good review. Listened to the album from start to finish, and The Ripper is definitely my favorite on this album. I didn't mind In Love and Death, really liked S/T.
This album also makes me curious what comes next for these guys. They did get a new drummer, and their sound is changing, slowly but surely changing.
Bert's screaming/singing is definitely improving, sounding more controlled and matured, unlike his previous scream.

I know this thread is dead but i had to comment after seeing the indignation created by people calling The Used Emo. I know the likes of John A. Hanson want the correct definition of his precious Emo back but don't ruin and drag through the mud another genre in exchanged because The Used arent Pop Punk. So don't label them that when they clearly aren't. I know emo people hate that Emo has lost its true meaning in the perception of most but obfuscating another genre to clear up yours is just counterintuitive and ironic. Just label The Used what they really are a band that wants to be Emo but trys to play Pop Punk but fails at both
