I thought you guys were just full of it but this album really sucks.

The song HellYeah is pretty fucking awesome. The single sucks, haven't heard anything else. And no, replacing Dime in Damageplan would have been wrong, dude. It's not like he overdosed or something. He got shot, and deserves the respect. Plus, I would hate to be the guy filling his shoes!

Plus, they would of had to replace Vinnie cause there's no way he would of stayed in the band that his brother was playing for when he died.

I think you guys make some valid points, but I don't think the album is quite as horrible as everyone portrays it to be. What most of you fail to acknowledge, or take into account is that the members of this band KNOW what their music sounds like; they know that it's experimental and different.
This started off as a side project and I think it's still considered one... these guys are just trying to have some fun. I mean, there's a reason why the band, album, and first track all have the same kitschy "HellYeah" title -- they're not taking themselves seriously. It's obvious. My understanding is that it's all part of their style, whether you like it or not. And this isn't meant to be "L.D. 50" with songs containing some deeper psychological meaning, so please don't draw those comparisons.
With this album, what you see is literally what you get... and like I said this should be OBVIOUS. I don't know who's buying this album thinking that it's going to sound like old school Mudvayne or Pantera lol. This is a NEW band. Sure, Chad might be recycling his Mudvayne vocal style, but I think it works. Basically, HellYeah isn't meant to be analyzed by the pretentious metal hipsters of the world, but rather to be enjoyed by the simple-minded metal fans who don't give a shit.

This is as far away from being "experimental" as you can get. This Message Edited On 05.02.07

even if it is a joke side project the music is still bad so i still hate it just as much

it wasn't that catchy to listen to... now i don't care if they aren't going for in depth music, but i listened to their songs and honestly can't remember any of them... so that kind of tells me something.

I concur with elusive1 in the respect that it's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I heard this album for the first time the other day, and it really wasn't that bad, I actually enjoyed it. I think Chad could have done the vocals a little better, but it was decent. It just wasn't overly memorable which is what I think the problem is. (By the way, welcome to Sputnik, elusive1)

i wasn't expecting Tool when i bought it... but i wasn't aiming for total shit either
even when looking for "simple-minded" metal, you're infinitely better off listening to Hatebreed. this album just isn't fun to listen to at all

Yeah, like I said, it's not that great, I just don't think it's that terrible. Tracks like "Matter Of Time" and "One More Thing" rock pretty hard; I think "Nausea" has its moments. Overall, I consider this to be one of my guilty pleasures. It's just something for me to throw in the CD player after a long day at work when I just want to hear some energy. It really is similar to how I feel about Hatebreed, renegadestrings... I was about to draw that comparison earlier.
Also, I think part of the reason it's hard for people to accept or enjoy this band is because of their so-called "redneck gimmick." A lot of people probably don't feel comfortable with the vibe. I do feel comfortable with it because I grew up around southern culture. And while I'm far from being a redneck, I like some of that shit lol. YES I drink Miller and YES I drive a Mustang. :-p
Thanks for the welcome, Slaytan -- glad to be rockin' with you guys. This Message Edited On 05.03.07

Ugh, I heard the single on the radio, and it did a huge amount of absolutely nothing for me. Mere moments before, I had been chuckling about the band's choice of name, but I sure wasn't laughing when the song was over. And to think, one of my favorite sites, allmusic.com, gave it a 3.5/5!
Also, worst album cover ever...?
Good review, mate.

I really like this band, most bands these days have records with the same sound on every track. i like the mix of all the bands because i can pick out different parts of the band to listen to drums, bass, vocals etc. Sorry if you all hate me but they are not that terrible....they have been around in the music world a while and they get paid to do these experiments...i am sure they know what sounds good or not, it just takes one critic to tell all the close-minded people a band is sucky and all the people agree without expanding their music variety. Open up and think about the bands you listen to now, it took those members to experiment and come up with what you listen to now
Love Ya...

How is this expirmental? And an open-mind isn't going to change the fact that it's a bunch of metal players joining with other metal playeres to play....
Metal.
It's nothing new, and it's not done well. This Message Edited On 05.11.07
