this is in response to dantesfire10
Everything is breathing was not a follow up to bless the martyr...at all...it may sound similar but thats only because of the fact that the truth behind josh leaving the chariot was he wanted to continue in the "chaotic Metalcore" direction...much like what you hear on norma jeans bless the martyr and the rest of norma jean decided to go in a more straight forward direction...hence their last two follow up albums to bless the martyr with new vocalist corey being so very different from bless the martyr. Josh wrote most of everythings alive.. before he even had the chariot fully put together, which is why you get a sound thats very reminiscent of bless the martyr.
Also, you are mistaken about the lyrics on the album being about death and destruction and the armageddon. Read them more carefully. The concept and purpose of the lyrics in the album is to state that these things, which are overly sung about in many bands songs, are not happening. that everything is OK. hence "everything is alive, everything is breathing, Nothing is dead, Nothing is bleeding" Josh himself has stated this in countless interviews. its supposed to be the opposite of the generic metalcore lyrics about everyone dying, burning, killing each other, so on and so forth.
Like i mentioned before, theres a reason it has a similar sound to old norma jean. The Fiancee really doesnt differ in any way from everything is alive other than recording quality..yes music wise, the direction is a little different between the two albums, but you have to remember, the guys playing the instruments on the fiancee are 4 completely different guys from the original lineup when everything is alive was released...you have to take into account that they are going to have different writing styles, and different approaches to writing. But they have stayed true to their chaotic sound through it all. if the fiancee was recorded live in the studio, it would sound just as crazy and, for lack of a better word, unconventional.
Its true that everything is alive was recorded in live in the studio, but its not completely without mastering. about 95% of it is, but there are certain parts on the album that are mastered. (example - The end of "and then came then" with the violin and chorus outro), But to say that just because it was recorded that way makes it a follow up to bless the martyr is just silly. yes it took only three takes, but it was mixed and mastered properly. theres no basis to to say that one is a follow up to the other. again...they sound similar for a reason, but they are related only in the fact that josh scogin is the singer.

I just lastly wanna say that, I am a huge fan of the chariot, I Have seen them several times live, I Have met them several times and I'm friends with their former bassist beiser on aim and have talked to him for years. since everything is alive.. came out. The reviewer of the album stated that josh scogin is a mediocre singer at best, which compared to more mainstream metal hardcore bands that may be, but the fact of the matter is, he is one of the best vocalists in his genre and kids love him. his voice is unlike anyone elses and that makes him stand out and above so many other generic metal core vocalists. The chariot is amazing live..maybe they sound awful live, which sometimes they do...but i still love them and they still put on an amazing show. They give the crowd one hell of a performance regardless of how they sound and people love them for it.
fact of the matter is, the chariot has stayed true to the spirit that everyone saw and heard when everything is alive was released, and the true fans know it. if you truly love the chariot, for what they are and always have been you will like the fiancee. if you wanna hear more generic stuff, then dont buy this album.

i don't hear any metalcore on the fiancee...
what i hear is a solid album.
though, i'm a bit disappointed that it took these guys three years to write 9 songs and an outro.
but i'm just being nit-picky.
overall this album rules.
i love how the record sounds more like a heavy punk record than their last albums (which were consistently great as well.)

This is a really bad album name. Horrid, actually. I won't be checking this out because I hate Norma Jean.

The drumming alone is enough to make me want to pull my hair out...

I disagree on Joshua Scogin. He is one of the best hardcore-vocalists out there.
But this album is average.

This has to be the dumbest review I have ever read. One, maybe you should listen to early norma jean and luti-kriss to understand that they were actually a hardcore band then with scogin and not commercial screamo like norma jean is today. Scogin has to be one of the best and most underrated screamo-ers out there from the fact that he has been doing it for over ten years, has been part of four great albums, and can actually do the vocals with different ranges. They are not amazing musicians, but to compare them to bands that are hardcore one second, then throw in high pitched singing and techno beats is demoralizing. The gospel or southern feel to the album is a nice touch and the song with Haley from Paramore is probably the only time I have ever liked anything she has done. And how is his vocal style controversial? Is it because he does only screamo and actually has talent?

The lack of structure is intentional, it's not that difficult to figure out. They are creating exactly what they intend to create, but the great majority of people want something ultra-produced and refined.
And Josh Scogin is one of the few vocalists who sounds as if he's screaming his last note in virtually every song.
You don't have to like what The Chariot does, but just because they don't fit into your mold doesn't mean they suck. It's nice to hear a band do something completely different - that's why I get their shit out and spin it every now and then. It's a beautifully destructive, relentless change-up that few bands can deliver.
