good review, haven't heard this album, probably won't as I hate metalcore ugh
Give it a shot. I really don't like this, but "Jane Doe" doesn't seem half bad so far...
In Nile's case it's more like the whole song.
Seriously
When I saw this album on the front page of the metal section this morning with a rating of 2, I honestly thought a war was brewing on Sputnik
Yea, I think I've dodged a few bullets so far...This Message Edited On 03.14.07

I'll have to disagree. Theory in Practice, a tech death metal band, seems to play all over the place, but they always seem as one. On the verses to the "Dehumanized", it took me a few listens to love it because it was hard to follow. They play chaotic, but they match each other. Converge doesn't seem to do this (well, at least to me).

There's a world of difference between what the two bands do. Their intentions are just completely different. You probably realise this, but oh well.

EDIT: I am stupid for not understanding how someone could think this is crappy but Jane Doe is solid? This Message Edited On 03.14.07

Jane Doe just feels more thought-out than this...it's much less sporadic and it feels more centered (well, that's my impression of it after the first five songs. Still have to to finish it...)

I find this a decent album. I like all the random noise and the ra ra vocals.

Nah. I understand how you could like one more than the other but the contrast confuses me a bit too.

I didn't say they were the same thing, but something that's uncontrollable, or uncontrolled, is by definition unpredictable.

hooray, a semantics argument.
Everything is controlled by something. It's a matter of from what point of view you look at it. If the brakes go out on your car, you might call that going out of control, but you're still able to steer, so to a certain extent you're still in control.
As another example, take a wussy-ass parent and a rebellious kid. The parent can't control the kid, but if the parent knows his or her kid well enough, they can predict to a certain extent what they're likely to do.
If anything, it's that something that's unpredictable is uncontrollable, and not the other way around.

The "clean'' vocals on Grim Heart/Black Rose were done by Jonah Jenkins (Only Living Witness), not Jacob Bannon. At least do a little research when reviewing an album, as this kind of information isn't hard to get ahold of, even if you don't have a copy of the CD.

I'm still trying to get into this band, but from a few songs I've heard off here, they aren't too great. Is Jane Doe the way to go?

the first four songs don't sound alike. heartache has a sludgy, doomy intro, and hellbound has wild, trebly guitar squeals everywhere.
the instruments do play well together. this album has some of the best bass/drum grooves known to man.
stick with your thrash, bud.

Edit: and bannon doesn't do the clean vocals on grim heart/black rose either. that's some other dude. This Message Edited On 06.09.07

The first five (not four) songs were meant to roll together as one, so go fuck yourself you little cunt. This Message Edited On 06.12.07
