I've always kind of hated The Shins since they first came out. Thought they were a bunch of twee pansies who made Death Cab look full of testosterone by comparison.
This is the one album of theirs that impressed me....it gives me the same vibes of wonder, introspection, and self-discovery that I get from albums like Funeral or Aeroplane.
Sleeping Lessons makes me want to go find everyone who's ever wronged me and spit in their face......in a positive, self-improving kind of way.

"Phantom Limb and Sea Legs are the only tracks worthwhile on this"
Disagree but both are great tracks for sure.

Australia is their best song though.

Basically to sum up the Shins:
Oh, Inverted World = Classic album and an essential addition to any indie collection
The rest of their career = 3.5

Nope. Inverted is really good, but Chutes Too Narrow is better.

A stronger girl would shake this off in flight
And never give it more than a frowning hour
But you have let your heart decide
Loss has conquered you

Born on a desert floor, you've the deepest thirst
And you came to my sweet shore to indulge it
With the wan and dreaming eyes of an orphan
But there is not enough
There is not enough

Extremely solid album that sounds very nice indeed. Just gave it the first full listen in quite a few years. You can tell Mercer just wanted the other guys in the band to fuck right off and let him do his thing. See: Sea Legs. Amazing song.
