I don't know why people are dogging this album. I love it. It's really really great if you smoke a joint, kick back and listen to it.

Very harsh review for such a great album.

Global Warming slays pretty much everything else here.

I can't lie, I think the album overall is pretty average. Where Dragons Dwell, World to Come, and even To Sirius are all rather dull and uninspired. Ocean Planet is a good intro track, but also seems to drag under the weight of it's own heaviness. HOWEVER...
Backbone, From the Sky, Heaviest Matter, Flying Whales, In the Wilderness, and Global Warming are all rather good. Sky has a great sound/riff that just isn't used quite enough. I can't stop listening to Backbone (this song really makes me want to beat the shit out of someone and love it...in a good way ;)) and Whales, and Heaviest Matter and the second half of Wilderness are supremely heavy and awesomely compelling. Warming is a great closer though I think the part at the end (We will see our children growing) drags on a little too long.
Basically, the tracks are rather hit or miss, but there's enough here to make this a pretty good CD. This Message Edited On 10.20.07This Message Edited On 10.20.07

Those are all no-name online zines that are for the metal subculture only. They rate everything that's metal with inflation because it's what they like.

I don't really see any comparison between Gojira and Meshuggah, other than some parts of the album where the vocals are atonal. I can understand the Mastodon reference, however.
Still, in my opinion, this is a great album. What rubs me the wrong way is that some people say "Well, my friend saw these guys and said they sucked, and I read a review that said it sucked, so I'll never listen to it". At least give it a listen if you haven't, otherwise you really aren't forming your own opinion of it. One reason why they probably weren't that good at the Children of Bodom and Amon Amarth show was because it was their first US tour ever. The Radio Rebellion tour is their third one in the States, and I saw them recently -- amazing show.
I dunno, I'm just saying to give something a listen before you dismiss it based on what everybody else says.

Keep in mind I never mention Meshuggah once. It's the people in the commentary section.

Well I think this is really good, and I saw them live and they were phenomenal.

I mean, I'm not trying to say "You think they sound like Meshuggah, so you're a tard" or whatever. I personally don't see it as much as some people seem to.

I love Gojira. One of my permanent favorite bands along with Opeth. I don't see how it got this low of a rating though.

Gojira was amazing live. they put on just as good a show as Behemoth and they blew JfaC and Beneath the Massacre out of the water. i do see lots of similarities between this and Mastodon, but i still like it a lot

Beneath the Massacre are ridiculous live, just because of the overtly technical aspect to their music.
But yeah, Gojira are cool. I need to get this album back from the girl I leant it too though.

i mean Beneath the Massacre was fairly technical, but the stupidity, elementary, and for the most part unnecessary breakdowns they had it really ruined the music. they had goofy a*s one chord breakdowns in almost every song. plus the singer plays no instrument and the drummer is like a statue behind the drumset. Gojira can be pretty technical and the singer plays guitar, that is talent. plus i find their drummer to be excellent especially live.

Assuming that a vocalist has to double as an instrumentalist to have talent is a pretty shitty assumption.
