No, it's a thread about Sum 41. And you just said your opinion of Sum 41 is based on what other people think of them, which means you are leeching off of other people's opinions.
Sorry, kid, but you're done.

Apart from the Linking Park similarities and some failures, this album is the best that Sum 41 has produced yet. They successfully pull out their mission to lash out punkish and metallish songs while at the same time stay true to their nature of writing simple but awesome songs. :D :D :D
*This is my first review (seriously). I hope you enjoy this album as much as I did.
Dude sorry but I dont think they have anything like Linkin Park. None of their stuff sounds like Linkin Park.
Linkin park is SEVERLEY overrated!!
I don't know about you guys but when I think '90s pop rock I think Blink-182, Sum 41, and Green Day. Blink's new "mature" album is amazing - as with Green Day's. But when I heard Chuck off MTV, I was kinda dissapointed. Their lyrics have matured but the music sounds like Metallica rip off crap like everything else on the radio and I never liked Metallica for the most part anyway.
Are you calling Dookie immature? If so, I disagree. That was Green Day's best work. Also, I don't know how you get off by saying rip off crap. So what if they use some of the same riffs as Metallica, it's a free country (aside from the fact Sum 41 are Canadian). Once you become famous and rich off your little "original" work, you then can get off by calling Sum 41 and other bands crap and you will be respected because some people will actually think you are better than them. Until then, stop dissing on those who got there first.
By the way, Chuck rules. I just got it today.

I fail to see the Metallica influences in The Bitter End, except maybe for the solos.

Album Rating: 3.5

The problem with Pop-Punk....
Sum41 (and other bands of theri ilk) are not exactly my cup of tea.
Whenever i hear something in that style i compare it to three releases. "Milo Goes To College" by the Descendants , "Contemporary World" by the Asexuals, and "Dookie" by Green Day. What the hell, i'll add early stuff from the Dickies and Mad Parade to that list as well even though they aren't really pop punk.
About 98% of the Pop Punk bands i've heard since "Dookie" was released don't even come close, and none are fit to be compared with the Descendents.
To say that most are formula driven and derivative is an understatement.
I've heard Sum41 on more than a few occasions and have never been impressed a bit. If i was to give anyone advice it would be to ignore anything that could limit what you want to do. Forget about MTV or commercial radio, you don't need that.
Look at a band like Husker Du in the 80s. They did everything THEIR way and by the time they got to the majors could pretty much dictate what they would do. Metallica was the same.
If anyone here is a collector i'd suggest you do a little research and find out about the root bands in pop-punk (BTW. There was no such solid term, it was ALL punk rock. Pop or melodic or whatever was a description not a genre).
If you do, you wouldn't be surprised at the lack luster sounds of today.

Surprisingly, the reason I am really starting to enjoy this band is because they have matured. They are no longer the awful pop punk facade they were years ago. They've grown into their own thing, with their own influences and sound, and they're so much better that way.
Overall, I'm not a huge fan, but when their songs come on the radio, I listen.

can anyone agree with me in saying that ever since STLI sum 41's production has been crap? its all so over-produced and digital sounding, it totally ruins it for me. and the bitter end is a blaitant rip off of battery, the structure is almost exact

Aaah some one send me Half Hour of Power! 0=)
Just kidding...I'm not a music pirate... :upset:
*Doorbell*
"CRAP!"
Anyhoo, I was expecting this album to be a little bit more metallish (I really wish they'd do just one majorly overblown metal album, maybe as Pain for Pleasure or something), but from what I've heard, it doesn't sound too bad.
...I'm serious...if anyone wants to send me HHP, it'd make my day. :thumb:
