Yeah this record is where Steph starts being a little less creative, he's been in support mode ever since.
I guess it just depends on how you feel about that, personally I love it. Leads to more creative and spacey moments with Chino and Frank.

And thank you jester for trying to start constructive stuff. So I actually listened to some things which I can describe as really good but just not for me like Zeal & Ardor Deafheaven, Between the Buried and Me (even got 2 records that were pretty nice). And on a whole, I know it is just my subjective experience. Unfortunately, I can't remember something specific because most of it (band name, album name, album cover) is pretty interchangeable imo. I check the sputnik trends on a regular basis and when there are bm/dm bands the first thing I notice is that many of that bands have hilariously high ranked albums. When I'm listening to them they mostly sound like the same. I try to search for some and post them when I find what I'm talking about.
